hey guys. I have a 68 340 motor with a 2531915 intake. Does anybody know what carb I need for this intake? Carter AVS doesn't work, secondary plates hit. Does it use a Holley? If so what size?

OK, i'll check into that. My friend is doing a 69 GTS with 340 and that manifold has larger secondary holes. Not sure of the casting # on his. Did those motors come with Holleys on them in 68? thanks for your input.

they come with avs and it bolts right up to the intake....edelbrock will too.holley will also bolt up,but you need a spacer.

Whats the number on your AVS?

68 and 69 340 intakes have the same casting numbers; 2531915.
70 was different;3462848.
There were about 11 different 340-AVSs; 2 in 68, 4 in 69, and 5 in 70.
From 71up, on 340s, there were no more AVSs.Chrysler switched to the mighty TQ.
There were many other AVSs, on bigblocks.
340s used Carters 4bbls exclusively. They never came with Holley 4 bbls .
Holley 4bbls were found on many BBs

Yes, I have 1915 intake. All 4 holes are same size. Cartes AFB won't work. My uddie's 340 has AVS and secondaries are bigger so it won't bolt up. There must have been a AVS that had all same size throttle plates. This has been frustrating as heck and I'm about ready to scrap factory intake and put a performer RPM on it.

What is the number on your Carter carb?

Ok I'll tell you what; Heres a list of the 11 AVSs, from 68 to 70, that will physically fit on that 1915 manifold.

1968; 4424s,4425s
1969; 4611s,4612s,4636s,4639s
1970; 4933s,4934s,4935s,4936s,4937s,
The number is stamped on a corner of the baseplate

Now quitcherbellyaching.............................................................................................lol.

i read somewhere that early 340's came with 485 cfm and 535 cfm avs's.
these carbs were quite small
also early 440's had 585 cfm carbs
can't say how accurate that info is but someone on here probably knows

OK, mum's the word. The hunt is on for the 2 68 carbs. Thanks for the help. My first Mopar project, treadin new ground here.

Why is looking for a correct carb a secret? Or are you saying you think we're keeping secrets?
Have you tried to look in the classifieds?
Did you ever look at the stamping number on your Carter carb?
Did you bother trying a spacer for the AFB you already have?

There's a Carter 4612S in the classifieds right now...seller is broooown...

EDIT at 2112 Hawaii time: There's a 4933 in there too....first ad in the lineup right now.

Further edit...searched "carter" in mechanical classifieds...after thumbing though some more ads, found a 4934...from a '70 340...should also bolt on to your intake...

All Mopar AVS's from 1968 to 1971:

Have the same secondary throttle plate diameter of 1 11/16"

340 and 383 AVS's have a primary throttle plate diameter of 1 7/16"

The primary throttle plate on 440 AVS's are larger at 1 11/16"

Like was asked before what is the number on your AVS carb?

What are the hole diameters on your intake?

Could you take a picture of your intake without carb on it and left and right pictures of the carb linkages?
