I just picked up this car recently and have been trying to do a little research on it. Bought it out of a storage yard after it’s been sitting for over 30 years. It’s a 340 4 speed car with quite a few options. I’ll be starting to tear into this one soon, starting with trying to get the engine running again.

Those cars a dime a dozen - nothing special. Luckily for you I’m here to help. I will take it off your hands for what you paid….

No? Well I thought I’d try. Lol

Love that car, I’d get it running and leave the patina just the way it is. Super cool survivor..

To answer your question they made quite a few 340 dart swinger cars in 1970. It still fairly desirable though, that’s for sure

Enjoy the car

No such thing as Scat Pack options.

It's just a sticker they put in the quarter window... Just a marketing deal.

That's a 71 Rimblow steering wheel. 70 Dart rimblows look like this:

Some guys know too much and try to deflate your ego. I had one, a 70 Dart 340 Swinger, just didn't like the look, so now I have a 74 Duster that replaced the Dart, waiting for the stroked 360 to be installed. Here in NY, it seems like cold weather just won't go away.

13,784 1970 Dart Swingers were made, if memory serves. The build sheet is gold! Standard transmission was a 3 speed manual, 4 speed 833 and 727 Torqeflite were optional. That's one sweet survivor. I see N41 dual exhaust on the trim tag, but no N42 chrome tip stamp. California car?

Generally would have to have N97 noise reduction to not get tips. Usually that's a multi carb 440-6, 426 hemi deal. Most California cars got tips if standard, but lots of wives tales circulating that are inaccurate.

Does your 70 340 swinger show tips on tag? Was it built at same plant?

I read they were all built in Canada. My tag does show N41 and N42. I know some big block cars had turn down pipes because of noise laws.

The guy buys a car and thinks he has hit a home run, only to find out something isn't original. I'm truly amazed at the knowledge that some people on this Forum have about 50 plus year old cars. I bought a new 68 Road Runner and remember the 2 problems I had with it. 1 was the window cranks, the rubber handle held on by a rivet would break. The other problem I had was the 4 speed wouldn't shift into 2nd. Now they have been building the 4 speed for almost 5 years and now I have a problem. I brought it to a dealer in Delaware and he said that a groove was missing and that was the problem. Being in Dover near the Newark parts depot I guess he replaced the tranny. Never thought to ask, because I was so happy to be able to go through the 4 gears now.

Yes it’s been a CA car its whole life, but built in Canada. I know the steering wheel is not original, and someone swapped an automatic column in it at some point also.

I turned 17 in summer of 1970.
Two months later, I retired my 57 Belaire with a burned up PG, then I purchased;
LM23H0R321200 in Pink; with
IIRC it had about 11,000 miles on it.
In the time I had it, from late summer of 70 to spring of 75 it was on it's Second Engine, Second trans, 3rd clutch, and second rear end, not to mention starters/alternators/batteries/etcetera. and
she was beat up pretty bad.
During that time, it went thru a total of 14 tires, and 1 pair of studded snows besides.
IIRC the Polyglass GTs were taken off the back and saved for the front, cuz on those tires, that Swinger was the worst handling car I ever owned, that's 4; and at the rear, the other 5 pairs melted off, at the rate of 1 pair every summer.
The only things I added to it were wider tires and wheels, 4.10gears, a set of rear springs, custom-built slapper bars, and a Mr.Gasket Shifter. ...Oh and the obligatory 8-track player and 4 speaker system.
That car taught me how to drive.

Congratulations on your rare find. They're getting quite rare actually go to any car show and you'll see dozens of dusters and dozens of Camaros and etc etc 1970 340 swingers there may be one or two maybe in a show of 300 or more cars I mean 70 and 71 dusters and demons are quite valuable relatively speaking and have been popular of late.original 340 swinger will have about twice to three times the value of a late model duster or Dart.

Not sure if you're interested or how your project car is coming along but check out my car that I unfortunately have to move on from: [FOR SALE] - 1970 Project Car Dodge Dart Swinger two door Slant 6 225 - $3,000 (Carlsbad,CA) Perhaps you could use or find some value!!

I still have my 69 Dart Swinger 340, as in the photo. You are correct, it is the worst drivable car I ever had, including a 72' Dodge B300 Sportsman Royal Maxi, that I just got rid of. You need to be 110% alert to drive it. It is a blast, but a little scary sometimes.

"Scat Pack" is cars that run a 14 sec or better 1/4 mile.
I thought it was 13.99 or better. On a perfect day and turning, with the right driver, I believe they would turn those numbers. Not all do because they are missing one of the items. Don't blame it on the 340.

love 70 swingers ,second to 69 gt..
rally dash and highback buckets just add to it that much more
do you know any of its history

I know it’s been off the road since 1992. Turns out the engine and transmission is numbers matching, but it has O heads on it that I’m not sure are correct or not. Also doesn’t have the original 340 exhaust manifolds anymore. I’m still up in the air whether to restore it or sell since I also have a 68 Dart I’m in the middle of working on.
