Hi, I recently purchased a 1973 plymouth duster 340 and having been trying to learn as I go. I was more into imports as teenager but my son is starting to get into muscle cars so I figured why not get one and learn about it as I go. I have very little experience with classics, carbs and whatever else comes with the territory. I would like to thank everyone here who helps people out as I have read alot of posts, although not posted myself until now. It has been a great help to get me pointed in the right direction. I apologize in advance for any stupid questions that may be asked around here..

The car the day I was bringing it home...

You've come to the right place. Lots of good info and great people here! Welcome to your new addiction!!

From one BC'er to another, welcome! Has it always been a BC car?

The car was originally from California but brought up to BC 20 years ago and has just been sitting with no engine every since. The guy that had it before me had a 360 out out an 80 something truck. So I've put that in for now with 727 transmission. Will eventually like to build a 340 engine for it but want to get the car mechanically sound with what it came with first.

Here is a pic of the engine painted and installed. Will have more pics later.

Welcome. There are no stupid questions. Lots of helpful folks around here. I say stick with your 360. The 340 I nice but the money you'll spend trying to buy a 340 can go right into your 360. If I had to do it all over again I'd go Mangum 5.9 or Gen IV Hemi...

The 360 is a good platform to build on with extra stroke for more torque that will make very similar peak power earlier than a 340 at less cost. The extra torque helps make it even more streetable and helps get you off the line easier.
The 5.9 is a better idea. The blocks have been appearing better and the cylinder wear less due to the FI set up before you get it keeping it cleaner.

While the 340 is a great old time screamer and Performer, the cost of the block alone can be an entire reciprocating assemble by the time your ready to build the 340.

There are issues to each engine so it's all a wash as far as I'm concerned. Do your home work first!
