I need a new turn signal switch. I've bought and replaced a few on other cars from Ebay and Amazon. They work, but they just don't feel solid.
What are you guys using?
Thanks for your input.

The aftermarket ones are not good (as you know) Slantsixdan has some coming I understand. His are good quality. You can look for NOS ones on E bay as well.

I always end up using old functional switches. Repop crap has always caused me to replace them.
I am patiently waiting for Dan's switches to come in. Sometime this month I hope. I believe they are made by the same company that originally made them for Mopar. A friend sells Used Mopar only parts for a living and I bet he has a few used ones he would sell me. Try before installing would be a good thing.

Mike are you still having problems with your brake lights? My left brake light has just stopped working in the Charger. I replaced my turn signal switch with a new one only a couple of years ago.

I can't tell you where to get a good one But I can testify the aftermarket one that I bought was crap. Very clunky and feels like it might break every time I use it.

Yes. still an issue after installing a aftermarket switch. One side doesn't work until I turn on the other turn signal then both sides will light. I have been not using the turn signals. Better than getting pulled over for no brake lights on one side.

Interesting, I will have to recheck mine. I have been told that the left brake light is not working, but the signals are. I will have to try the brakes when the signals are on to see if it makes a difference.

I tried them in the garage with the door closed. Of course the right side didn't work. I cycled the turn signals with the key on and then both brake lights worked. If i were to use the turn signals again, I can bet one of the brake lights won't work. To anyone reading this, does something need lubed. Or, could there be a bad ground? But, it's plastic. Where would you ground it?

Here's the switch I took out. It had somilar issues.

While looking to see if I need an 8 or 11 wire switch, I moved the wiring harnesses around and got the blinkers to work. I actually think it is behind the dash where the problem lies.
I have the 8 wire switch. The 11 wire is for "cornering lights"...what are they?
I have working side marker lights which are a separate circuit. Are they fender mounted turn signals? Car is a 74 Duster BTW.
Thanks

All my other lights and flashers work. I replaced both the cans for good measure. The part were looking at is what I've replaced before which if, I remember requires to cut and splice the wires?
You can cut and splice but it's best to pull the connector and harness down the column with a wire. Remove the column covers to view the progress. There are a couple tight spots but pretty easy to feed the connector through.

Mopar used a similar switch for different models. The cornering lights are found on high end Chryslers. There was a electrical connector change in 64 or 65 but the switch is basically the same. FYI, NOS Mopar switches usually run $300.

I'll wait to get a decent one

No NOS here. I'll wait on Dan
Thanks

What year and model are you working on?

So am I. I hope he's successful.

74 Duster
8 wire with 4 way flashers? That big flat connector would be near impossible to pass through the column. Release the connector tabs and remove the wires from the connector body. You can then tape them all together and get it down the column.

the cam on my 50 year old original broke last year so it wouldn't stay on/cancel turning on the right side. I tried 2 replacement cams from dorman (PN49301), and those are trash. overly stiff and felt like they were going to break with every use; first one broke in a couple weeks with the features that hold the bend wires on it, the next the rivet holding the wires on to the cam failed leaving an intermitent connection, and the brake lights were very iffy and not reliable, and could never get my brake lights to work correctly. replaced it with a Standard Motor Products TW7 and everything has been working great all summer (knock on wood)

A buddy came over yesterday, and I asked him to check while I tried the turn signals and brake lights. The drivers side brake light doesn't work, but if you use the passenger side turn signal the drivers brake light works. So does that mean it is in the switch?

I would bet that's the issue. My 64 Polara does the same thing.

I was afraid of that. The switch was one I ordered through Dan a couple of years ago. I guess I will be pulling the steering wheel off to see if I can find a problem.
