so , comming back to my concern - ist there any chance this is 400 or 440 ?

The casting number is in the usual place for that block. Right above the bellhousing in the rear of the valley area. When you see the casting number back there you know you are dealing with an old 413 or 426W type of block.

Mariusz forget this thing and get 440 standard bore block. I will be importing a 400 block for myself as spare, we can ship both on one pallet and split shipping cost.

To make things more clear, this engine is in Poland which is a rare sight and price is decent for it being where it is.

Also for me it looks like 413.

Guys we will probably need your help as we will both be looking to get good engine blocks, 400 for me and 440 for the owner of this thread :)
We need to make nice, fresh 470 out of 400 and 496 out of 440.
Challenge is to get them from honest seller that won't make us ship piece of crap half way across the world only to find out we got junk after spending few hundred $$ for shipping.

Trying to avoid the problem led to this thread starting and photos posted for identification :)

We will post an ad for this soon I guess.

Buying engine blocks from across the pond is probably a tough thing. I'd recommend working with an engine builder since they usually are set up to ship engines and they most likely have some sources for used blocks.

All RB engines I've ever heard of have a horizontal pad you can barely see in that photo. Most have the CID or part of it stamped there, IE 426, or 26, or 413 or 13. Low deck blocks do not have that pad in that location. But as others noted........that block is cracked

Maybe it is maybe its not, looks like sloppy casting. Mine has ruff casting all over it too.

Hallo Everybody,

I found nice engine, but seller is not willing to take any more photo to identify it properly. Can anybody help me if this is 400 block based on photos below ?

Thanks in advance,
M.

Definitely an industrial engine, sawmill, water pump, D500-D700. No matter the displacement, B engine cored on 400 water jackets and RB cored on 440 water jackets, thick cylinder walled 361, 383, 413. Reverse water flowed different heads intake & about everything else... RB six pack rods and forged crank.
