Sounds pretty much what Fisher said in the beginning of the thread...
The guy is quoting you an off the self basic converter which based on how you say you're going to use the car is probably all you do need. Hell, you could probably just keep the stock one and be ok..
But... you did spend big bucks for a VERY nice engine and why not get the best performance out of it? I tried two off the self converters from name brand companies then went with the FTI and there is no comparison. Made it a completely different car with a custom converter.

Dam that is a really good $price for a custom converter.
Please keep us informed on how it works out for ya.

At 500 ft. lbs. in an A body that won't be raced it probably won't matter?
2400 give or take and you'll be traction challenged.

Any upgrades to the 904? Id start there before a blanket. No expert but the best thing would be to think you don't need a blanket cause your trans is bullet proof. And then get a blanket. LOL

I want it to match for sure after spending as much as I have in the car so far an extra $1000 or so is better to do it now than wait and have to do it again. I plan on driving it not really on the track but the last thing I want is some young driver with a rice grinder come up along side of me and blow my doors off. Not gonna happen.

Yea just had it rebuilt 2 years ago and has about 3,000 or less miles on it and was built to handle 450 HP. And did real well running 2 10 lb bottles of nitrous at around 400 HP but never off the start always 2nd 3rd and over drive. But I still wounder if you can get a 904 to handle 450 HP.

Not much left to spend might have enough for a 12 pack here real soon but will save you a few in case you drop by. :)

With street tires and 500 ft. lbs. in an A body?
A friend of mine was very unhappy with his 408 dart...nothing but tire spin in any gear up to highway speeds! Now purpose build your suspension for and race it at the strip with slicks and a custom converter, and it will be a different story.

I think a good set of MT ET streets would do a lot for traction. A lot of guys running 10's, 9's or quicker with them.

With a 500 horse engine that develops 500 ft/lb of torque at 3000 rpm you will have a tough time not blowing the tires off on the street. That's why you build it like that so you can. So many people over build for the street but by the same token, what you have is not enough and that's why you do..

Yea I thought about tire spinning and wasting a set of tires. Not wanting to really go to the track and race. I'm building it to just drive and squeak the tires now and then. For once in my old age I just want to play not get serious.

Run the Mickey Ts ss R2 compound far out little spin but out the hole like a bullet and with all that torque you won’t be able to wipe that smile off your face. You will be surprised @ 4-4500 rpm how quick your moving ! I just love it when they look and see the 273 badges on the fender when they catch up at the next set of lights.

Was thinking of putting slant six badges on it.

With that much torque and street slicks you may start breaking things if it hooks.

I think I will. tranny first I would guess.
I heard that a 904 can be built to handle it and will check into it.
When I started on the restoration I was planning on building my 340 but for what I paid for the 408 and the warranty was hard to pass it up.
