How high should I make my ceiling in my new shop,,,10 feet or 12 feet

-
From Tucson My friend just built his. He used a four foot high slump block base all around. (the block keeps out the pack rats, snakes and other undesirable's. plus monsoon rain runoff. ) The plus was instead of buying 12 0r 14 foot 2bys he used 8 foot 2by 4s on top of the slump block. . Alot cheaper and with the slump block base he got his 14 feet . Plus the shop looks great on the outside. Good luk with your build

I learned the farther away the shop is from the home the less chance of wife coming out to ruin my fun

So with 16’ i was able to add a 1000sq mezz added footing for my post. Give it thought before you pour concrete 8’ ceilings on 1st floor second floor is 6’5 or so can’t remember exact height.

With my 14' walls, I can put the car up there on the top lock and be able to park one of my full-size 4x4 truck underneath.

14 is as short as you should go if you want a tall 4 post lift. I have 14 in one building with a clear span so it’s 16 in center. I was wondering about the foam spray. They want 5500 for 1 inch foam ceiling and sides. How thick did you go with the spray foam? And does it help? I have another garage 30x45x18 with 6 inch fiberglass and it helps both in summer and winter. Thanks

Foam is great but can you spray it on metal ?
Thought you need ventilation

Yes totally can it will stick to anything. I sealed all My roof soffits and did closed cell. I Nevada with dryer air it works great. I wired for ceiling fans for future getting the air to circulate but you will be fine. In locations where there is more humidity you will need to add humidifier or some way to dry the air. But after further research I should have sprayed fire proof paint on it as spray foam is pretty flammable.

Spray foam is vary expensive my shop is 42x96 16’ to trusses. I have 4” on ceiling and 3” on walls best investment. Keeps the shop solid as a rock as it’s a pole barn. Should have sprayed fire proof paint on it after but didn’t do the research soon enough. But for me were its gets hot in summer snows in winter, and holds everything together like it was all sheered walks definitely to me worth it

Yes, it can be used directly on metal. We used foam to insulate the cab of a 1939 railroad caboose that the county historical society is refurbishing. Beats the hell out of the nasty asbestos crap that came out, or any other material we could have put in. No need for a vapor barrier or airgap.

Yes the spray foam will prevent sweating when applied directly to underside of metal

I did foam board then framed it out and fiberglass
Was thinking what to do on the roof

This spray place I called said 1inch. I think the way you did the thickness is great. 1 inch they want 5500.

That's why I spent 10k to ac my shop
Down side is now I don't want to do anything in the home shop....too hot too cold
Putting new roof on the mini home shop
Monday then insulation and mini splits
Make a nice environment to play
The big home shop will have to wait a couple of years
