Hi Guys,

does anybody know how to put in the intermediate bushing? I know there´s a special tool to get the proper size of the hole.....are there any other ways to get it sized right after putting it in? Wich diameter should it have?

thanks for your help!

Michael

Hey Mike, just press it in. Once in, measure the actual diameter of the distributor where it's going through and drill it out with a hand drill just large enuf for it to slip in freely and easy.

Don't do this on a running engine tho.... Chips have nowhere to go but into the pump...

hi, how are you going to drill it accurately?? if you miss,it'll not spin freely!
the only accurate method is to use the tool made for the job. I bought one, cost bout $50. it fits all mopar engines, 6 to v8. the proper tool always does the job right.

Moper, perfacar; Well, you all have a good point there. My (Very) bad. Order should have been reversed. It shouldn't be to hard to measure and purchase a drill bit for size. I like the proper tool idea best. However, be honest no, how hard can it be to measure the diameter and drill?

The problem is the bushing is meant to be swedged into place. To really lock it in. I use a new-but-cut-off oil pump drive to install mine, and it holds the size as it seats it. I have had no issues with doing them that way. I have seen some that were filed or otherwise enlarged fail after a shorter time.

This is the way my machinist installs the bushing, too.

Hi Guys,

thanks at all for the information. The engine is torn down for rebuild, no problem with some chips...

@perfacar: can you please post a pic of the tool and tell me the diameters? Then i will be able to make one for me.....

Hoooooollly crap Batman, $94.63!!!!!!!!!!!!

last one i installed needed no honing.

Last one I had to hone I did with an old drive that I cut lil angled grooves on, and with it greased, ran it clockwise through the bushing, pulled it out with all the shavings on it then dropped in the new gear.
