Is Hot-rodding & Hotrods on their way out

-
Oh good, another thread about the future of the hobby and how the next generation doesn't care. Let's throw in what's going on with classic car prices, and let all the misanthropic members with a persecution complex whine about how nothing is like it used to be and how everything is worse now.

Every generation, EVERY GENERATION, has whined about the up coming generations, you can track this back to the earliest written words.

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

― Socrates

Yeah that Socrates. Generational Blame: A Brief History

Good news! In the future you'll be dead, so you won't see what happens!

Exactly!

And 100 years ago guys your age were complaining about the kids being into those new-fangled automobiles and motorcycles instead of taking care of horses.
And yet so many keep on responding to these type of threads anyways

We have quite an active car culture around here. Once you follow all the show and cruise in links, there is something going on many days a week. I went to a cruise in last week and I am planning on going to another one this Thursday. Lots of excitement and the younger crowd is more than welcome. Like my buddy Adam. He was a customer of mine a few years back. His firebird is an old race car so he built a LS for it with twin windmills. Because he could. It's a pure, raw hot rod. It made me smile when he got it out on the street and laid into it.

Lol another one...... because hot rodding as you call it isnt cheap anymore. 20 years ago pick aparts were full of 70s cars etc. Now lucky to find 90s cars in them etc. Just the car scene is moving. U can get a modern car with a few mods that will out handle and be faster than your 50-100k muscle car. Plus also be way more reliable. Muscle cars and hot rodding is a rich mans game.

seems like its that way in all the clubs. only a few do all the work while others take credit and complain the most.
I dropped out of our Mopar club for that exact reason.

Junkyards near me are filled with LX platform cars. A kid could literally build something out of stock junk scrap and it would be a faster better car than any 50+ year old car and cost a hell of a lot less.

Hell, there are whole businesses devoted to scrap LX cars and parts. There's even a few youtube channels devoted to building Challengers out of other junk Challengers

As we know and love hot rodding our version of it is probably eventually going to get smaller and smaller. Cell phones and computers take today's youth down a different path. I will say though that when we are going through the McDonalds drive thru or a local WalMart parking lot there are still plenty of thumbs up and compliments from the younglings!

My son did Hotrod power tour
I did it with my daughter, we had a blast, she was the best co-pilot ever!

I would love to GIVE one of my project cars to an interested teenager to fix up, and to help guide them
Very generous.
Agree with your other statement, if I had a bb 4 speed in high school, dream come true.
I didn't, and without a mentor probably a good thing.

Whatever the hobby, someone out there wants that connection, needs it.

We meet more genuine people, interested in a conversation, driving our junk to the grocery store than to a car show.

They're out there, just not the majority.

It's making people lazy. I still say that it's going to be one of the down falls of our country. Do kids really learn in school anymore? If they don't know a answer to a question they don't research it out instead they pull out their cell phones or lap tops, it's sad very sad.
I ain't gonna lie, has anyone been on a subway lately? It's creepy as f***. You're surrounded by 100 zombies with their faces planted in their phones, totally unaware of the world around them... If this is the future of humanity, then stop and let me off.
