When I bought this 69 Valiant 100, I noticed the trim around the windshield and back glass loose in a couple of places. I thought not a big deal. just need to replace a clip or two. Pulled the trim off last night to do just that but cannot get a good angle to get to the screws that hold the clips on. the only way I can see to do this is pull the glass. surely there must be a better way. also, I didn't see any rope in the weatherstrip. Is this weatherstrip that goes around the front and back glass ropeless on a 69 Valiant. Thanks,Bill

removing glass is only way to change clips...correct, no lock strip the two halves tongue and groove together basically...u can see the parting line...just take your time and spread the two halves apart

I am not having too good of luck finding weatherstrip for the glass so I am going to get real creative here in trying to do this. Not to mention the cost of the weatherstrip itself. there has got to be a better way to do this. Thanks for the reply. Bill

Thanks KrazyKuda, pulling the glass just scares the hell out of me. never done it before with the intension of putting it back in in one piece.

is there a difference in the clips. front and rear and with other a body cars. from the pics I have seen it looks like some are taller than others.

I'll chime in here to save you some problems down the road.

Use Steele Rubber gaskets not cheapo aftermarket ones. You will have 100% better chance of getting it installed properly and it fitting right. Ask me how I know if you want.

If you have never installed one then hire a glass installer to help you. Best $100 - $150 you will ever spend.

Getting the old windshield out can be tough but if you cut the gasket and use some piano wire to go around the windshield you can do it yourself relatively easy.

Clean up the area around the frame so it looks like new and touch up anything that may be ratty or rusty.

Good luck.

We have a good trim shop here, M & M Glass, where you can drive your car there, or they come to your house and can replace a windshield/rear window in less than an hour... Usually just a little over a half hour, and you are on your way with a removal and install....

They make it look so easy.... :banghead:

went ahead and pulled the front and back glass out tonight. My idea that I had would not work after a closer look at some of the clips. Hell, some of them are rusted completely away. anyhow, they came out pretty easy. The glass wasn't even sealed. As far as the clips go, both front and back clips are the same. The 2 clips on the left are from the front and the 2 clips on the right are from the back. I thought they were different sizes. Don't know. But here it is. Going to order the rubbers from Steele in the next few days. don't know where I am getting the clips from. This is going to work out better so I can clean the tracks out. Still planning to paint this next weekend. Thanks for all the help so far.

Once you have done it R&R glass is easy.
Tip for install make damn sure everything is clean and there is no high spots, rust ect, that will break the glass on install.
As for clips check R/t speciality in PA they seem to have about everything.

the clips that are on the car are not available anymore. they have changed so I need to find ones that are 1/2" high. I guess the height is the most important thing on the clips. The old ones are 1 1/8" wide x 1/2" high. The ones I found the closest is 7/8" wide x 1/2" high. I would imagine the 1/2" high fits the inside of the trim piece. 521 restoration has these. going to check into this a little more. Thanks

yes sir, those are the same ones I am working on getting. I have been in contact with Jeff and he told me that those are the newer style clips for my application. They are 7/8 " wide instead of the 1 1/8 " like the old style. They are still the 1/2 " high so I don't think that would be a problem. The part # on these clips, old and new style is # 6002615. I pulled all the clips off of the channel today and all the clips both front and rear are the same. Jeff said that is not what the book calls for so I am going back with what was on there. I don't want to get new rubbers in and the glass in and find out the trim does not fit the clips. Thanks for the info. Bill

I just installed the windshield trim on my 69 Barracuda. Here's a good hint. Go around the front and rear windshields and place a small piece of masking tape on the glass beside each clip. That way when the trim is in place (and it may be difficult to see the clip), you know where to press the trim to get it to snap into place.

Trudysduster - Did you deal with 521 Restorations for your new clips? Reason I ask is because I just came across them and have never heard of them so I am weary about buying from them. Any info you have on 521 Restorations with purchasing, shipping, and arrival time would be great!

I have dealt with them, yes. good people. honest, shipping is pretty fast. Never had a problem.
