I've leased in the past due to job requirements. The only time I really had an issue at end of lease was when I went over on mileage. I was able to write it off, so in the end, no real issue.
I did learn to get a higher mileage lease the next time around though.
Most leases last during warranty coverage, so most anything mechanical is covered by the warranty.
I did have someone hit me in a lease car, my insurance covered the repair and it wasn't even mentioned during turn in.
Brakes and tires were covered in the lease as wear items, so I wasn't charged any additional.
