Ignition for Dummies (like me)
fuel, air, fire = boom chugaluga.
Might not stay running, but if its getting ANY fuel and does not at least try to start, there aint no spark. If its got spark and aint trying to start it got no fuel. Once it tries to start..
Poke randomly with screwdriver
Move all linkage at least twice
Hook up timing light and any other meter you have MAKE SURE THE ADVANCE DIA IS SET AT 0
Your car still aint running at this point, but it really looks like you tried.
Now you can...

Call the Hoppy help line.

Fixed!

I'd guess neither. But a new filter wouldn't hurt - its regular maint anyway.
I'ld replace all the hoses if they look like that. Including the one from the fuel tank to the steel line.
What carburetor?
Right now its the Edlebrock. Going back to the Carter.

Well then it prob has little to do with the filter or the pump.
No fuel flows through them when the car is sitting - unless you're someplace with negative gravity  :p

The fuel inlet is well above the fuel level.
Once its in the bowl, the only place for fuel to go when the engine is off is out the vents as vapor.
Exception being the Holley's with side mounted bowls which can leak at the bowl gaskets.

When the engine is off, look down the carb and move the throttle. If there's not much fuel out of the squirters then the accelerator pump either doesn't have fuel or a bad seal.

All of the above has been made more likely by the various reformulations of pump gas since 1967.
There was nothing out the squirters. Just read I'll go out and tap the sides of the carb with a rubber mallet. I remembered that helped a couple times before when I was having problems. If the car runs every few days it never has a problem. If it sits for a couple weeks then there is a problem.

And I said
Wait just wait for it

Typical fuel evaporation. My 2 barrel does the same thing.

Get a cheap condiment squeeze bottle, fill it with gas, stick the little tip in the card vent tube and fill the bowls. Fires them right up for me..

Torker II 850 cfm carb. 4111 I believe.
I do think the aluminum intakes help a lot. Especially the wedge motors with the open area under the plenum. The stock cast intake on my 273 is so flat and the carb gasket is pretty thin. You shut it off and you can hear the gas percolating in the carb for a while. I tried one of those fancy insulating spacers but ended up with a vacuum leak.
