Nothing wrong with Linux, my mom uses it. Seriously. She doesn't do very much other than surfing and watching streamed (and stolen) movies, though. And her boyfriend set it up.

I think it could be a little more challenging if you want to get into something a little more advanced, though, but I don't have any personal experience.

If you can get your hands on an old Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 installation disk, you can upgrade 10 Windows 10 for free and that is actually a pretty good OS.

Mind you, if you start out with Windows 8, you need to FIRST upgrade to 8.1 (which is free) and THEN upgrade to 10. A PITA, especially since W8 is such. a. crappy. OS. :banghead:

I know 67dart273 uses linux so I was going to contact him and get the scoop on it. If it sounds like something I dont want to get into I might just pay the $40 for the recovery disk from Toshiba

So you think its ok to upgrade to 10 now. I have 8.1 and was told to wait until they got the bugs out of 10 ?

My new laptop came with windows 10. When I did the start up on it I shut off a lot of what it wanted to monitor and report (search history, typing pattern, etc..) Other than that little bit of stuff. I actually like using it.

Can you still get windows 7 install discs. When my son set up his computer a year or so ago, he went to best buy and was able to get a windows 7 disc...
