Nice car there Cudaman. What cam are you running? toolman

I'm restoring my 65 Barracuda S and was wondering what muffler best duplicates the original exhaust sound. From what I have read, the muffler was a straight through design but is not available as a repo.
This is one terrific forum and a great place to get the "real scoop" on the A-Body cars. Thanks

Mine is posted under Mopar Exhaust,

Sticky: Post your sound bytes here.

Accurate exhaust with straight through muffler and resonator.

Cudaman sound is right on. I had an early 65 Hi-Po 273 4 speed back in the day that tape brings back a lot of memories. There is really no sound like it. Porsche Ferrari even a Real Ford GT that a friend let me drive is great but not the same. Spend the bucks do it once you'll be glad you did.

For me, the real 273HP exhaust sound, it's a tie between cudaman and 66fs. Cudaman, let's hear you rev that baby up! Like others have said, there's no sound like it:love10:

have any one ever wondered why Chrysler came out with the Formula S and did a lot of neat stuff to make the car sporty and mean, they still ran single exhaust instead of duals?

single exhaust > dual exhaust

---lighter weight
---simpler
---cheaper
---less surface area on the inside of the pipe (same flow area, 2.5" single flows better than 2" duals even though area of the pipe opening(s) is nearly identical)
---sounds better, smoother, throatier:iconbigg:
---total sleeper effect
---packaging
the list goes on......

Gee, you guys are smart. I always thought duals would be better. I was going to run duals on my Formula S but maybe I need to stop and think about it. The single is shot and I have everything from another car to run duals from the manifold to the rear. I am really into going back original if I can.
Thanks for the info.

Tadams,
Go look at a stock Dakota R/T exhaust.
2 pipes go into the cat and from there back it is one 3 inch pipe.
A couple of magazines back then put true cat-back duals on them and came up with only 1 or 2 more HP.
You oughta here mine at 100 mph with my Dart on the trailer.

thanks, I'll check that out. I don't have this fish home yet so I'm not sure what I will do. My other one was a /6 so it was more simple. In the late 60's early 70's I was into Mustangs. Had a boss 302 then a boss 429. Bought them new and they came with duals so I thought that was the way to go. Now I have seen the light and love the early model fish.

273 Commando. Stock exhaust with cherry bomb & factory resonator.
