TKX vs T56

-
The sb lists Ford TREMEC 3550, TKO 500, TKO 600, TKX

The bb QuickTime lists TKX Ford, TKO 500 / 600 Ford, T5 Ford 1983-1993, TR3550

The bb lists TREMEC 3550, TKO 500, TKO 600, TKX.

But at the top it shows:

BIG BLOCK MOPAR TO FORD TKX, TKO 500/600, AND 3550

Initially didn't see it at the top.
Of course I would call before ordering.

The guy I got my trans from had a Q/T bell... The run out was over .070... I machined custom offset dowels to center it up... Once that was done the dowels shifted the bell housing so far the bolts wouldn't go into their holes... Could have opened the holes up... But instead the man that owned the car decided to get a hold of Q/T to see if they would fix their product.... They eventually sent another bell but while waiting for it to arrive at Alan got an aluminum bell (the one I linked above) I bolted it in place & out of the box it was within .005.... When the Q/T bell arrived he sold it...

When I was doing my conversion I ordered one of the same bell housings... Bolted it on out of the box & it was within .004....

I tried to use an aluminum bell housing with my T56 and it was 1/2 inch taller then a QT and would have required tunnel to be 1/2 inch taller then T56 itself. I was able to align the QT to the crank fairly easily no issues at all.

SST sent me this one, same one @340sFastback had and swapped out for the QT bell.

Bell Housing – Tremec T56 Magnum to Mopar LA Small Block & Gen 3 Hemi

SST looks to have dropped that one, don’t see it on their website anymore, but looks to be available on the Quick Draw website.

Looks like Lakewood has one that might work as well. Looks to be a finer casting and less mass than the QD one.

Lakewood Hemi to T56 Bellhousing Kit – Three Pedals
The two I used were both Lakewood.. Good piece...

I made up this bracket to get my TKX shifter located correctly for a factory console. It's not pretty but it gets the job done.

Only caveat with this setup is the seat can't go all the way forward anymore. You may be a little uncomfortable if you're 5'6" or shorter.

Like I posted earlier, there are options... If you can fabricate you can make someone work.... You say it's not pretty, well when the boot covers it up it looks great...

When I was doing the conversion on my Red Challenger my GF was pissed off... She'd owned/driven nothing but manual transmission vehicles from the time she got her license till we bought her her first new car in 2001...
She had laid claim to the Red Challenger, insisted the Green one was mine & the Red one was hers... She was tired of shifting & said if I put a manual in it she would never drive it.... Well, it spite of claiming it, she'd never driven it when it had the auto... Sooooo.... Anyway, now that it's done she loves it, Changed the personality of the car, made it more of a real muscle car... She sees how much I enjoy rowing the gears & how many people look and comment on it having that pistol grip poking up between the seats..... Yeah, one of the best modifications I've made... You are gonna love it... Just need to start saving for another one for your Vert....View attachment 1716494306

Ok those are gorgeous! I’m jealous!

I’ve looked for convertible E-bodies but haven’t found one at the right time. I’ve also looked for a convertible Coronet but same problem as fb E body.

I won’t put a manual in the GTS because it’s all original, but if I had a convertible non GTS I’d swap it over in a heartbeat.

Well...... The Red one started life as a 6 cylinder auto on the column car... Bought it in the eighties... Had converted it to a 360 & a 727 on the column.. Was gathering pieces to convert it to a four speed back in 93-94 timeframe when a opportunity to buy a numbers matching lime green R/T vert came along...

Bought the green car but didn't have $$ to fix the green car, so after trying to sell a hardtop with no buyers so I decided to let the Red car go....

Always missed the Red car but the Green one wasn't a bad substitute...

Around 2001 I got word if an neglected 68 Coronet RT vert... Brought it home on Sept 11th... Cost me $75..... Guy was ready to send it to scrap...

Began working on that and in twenty years it was starting to look like a car...

than in 2022 I got a chance to get the red one back.... So...

Since I got it back I got a chance to get a TKO for free... So... I've been pretty lucky in the Mopar hobby...

Do you still have the coronet? That’s the B body is want as well, they are big *** boats.

Just getting back to it... Been digging out boxes of restored & NOS parts the last couple days... Everything I collected 20-25 years ago... At the time I was buying a lot of stuff Figuring I'd bought the car so cheap I could over pay for a few parts & it wouldn't matter... Now you can't touch a lot of the stuff I picked up back then...It'll be a pretty sweet car when it's done...

The hobby has gotten so expensive, really takes the fun out of it.. I still jump in my cars & go for drives regularly, but I usually avoid high traffic areas.... Once a year I break that rule & drive down to Van Nuys for Spring Fling but ya gotta roll thew dice sometimes..

Green Car has over 100K miles since I restored it... Red car before I sold it I put close to 50K on & since I've gotten it back probably another 15 K...

That’s awesome! We drive the purple car and blue car a lot, I hope I drive the manual car a lot too, the bad part is it’s not a convertible. And convertibles corrupt you once you drive one lol.

Yup, Some folks don't want a vert... Then they drive one & suddenly they want one... Prior to getting my first one I had no real opinion one way or the other... Since the first I haven't looked back... If the right deal comes along I might take it home...

Actually prior to my Mopar verts I owned a FJ40 that rarely had it's roof attached so I had already been corrupted...

Yeah I had 2 jeep rubicons before the Mopars, always had the bikini top on them, never anything else.

For the darts I had the 2 hard tops first, good prices, then this year the gts vert and yeah I need more.

This one is perfect for a coronet.

There are things you only get with a 70, that said, I love the 70 Roadrunner... The 70 Coronet is an acquired taste... I haven't acquired that taste yet...

Once you get the 6 spd car together and on the road your gonna love grabbing those gears. It will be like an addiction all your gonna want to do is drive it.....
