What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Not an A body, but I took the fenders, grill and doors off of my Scout today. Rest of the front clip comes off tomorrow. Then maybe the tub onto the rotisserie by next weekend. Amazingly, the understructure has almost zero rust. Was a very nice surprise.

Well, at least its part Mopar.
I had a 76 Scout II. Had a 345 v8 with an auto trans.
Come to find out I was a 727 torqueflite. Motor had over 2 hun thou. Miles. And was tired.
So my uncle had an idea ? Let's do something crazy. We pulled the M&T . freshed up a 400 BB. Rebuilt a BB 727 and used the tailshaft out of the scout. . The block and headers fit without very much work at all. Way to go Mopar.

Nothing, stuck in neutral. Cable from the Hurst promatic to the tranny was not secured well and it got up against the header, now its fried and the cable is stuck. Oooops.
Got on Jegs and ordered up a replacement. I'll be more careful routing and securing the new one. $70 dollar mistake.

Painting dash and other interior trim pieces with base coat clear coat from Tamco.

Yesterday, I drove it home! No taillights, but I jumped the switch so I have hazards. Gotta love living in the country!

Certainly on the to-do list if the 345 ever gives up. And the front clip is off..

Adding some new boxed lower control arms, Hotchkis adjustable strut rods, and Hotchkis tubular sway bar.
Pics of the old, and the new parts.
Started at 7:15am this morning and stopped about 3:15. Just got the control arms and strut rods done and everything back together.
Way to tired at that point to even mess with the sway bar. Maybe tomorrow, or next week.

Um... or something like that.

Today:
Painting the water pump and timing chain cover black to match the black (shoutout to YR because he voted for a black engine, and I think it'll look ice in a red engine bay) 1991 LA360 block.

Pulling the rotating assembly in preparation for taking the block to the machinist.

More pics in the next several hours.

You can't see in the picture, but the connecting rods have some ugly surface rust. Also the top rings on #2, and #8 were not doing their jobs. See below.

IMG_20180721_200707.jpg

There was also surface rust on the crank on all the exposed surfaces. See below.

I'll talk to the machinist when I take it in. Hopefully, I will not have to buy a new crank. Depending on that discussion, I may just build my 318-392 stroker. I was hoping to use this as interim engine, and a spare when I get the next one built.

Any thoughts on the viability of this crank and rods? I was thinking that I'd just just get these Scat I-beams.

More updates on the parts I pulled. The cam lobes had some surface rust. Some of that is oil, some is surface rust. I'll clean it up for some better pics tomorrow.

pics after cleaning with GUNK. I think I'll be able to clean up the surface rust with a drill, polishing compound and a cotton wheel. The lobes with rust are both intake and exhaust for cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4.

Nothing with the car. Doing shop clean up/straighten up. Got this heavy duty shelf unit a buddy gave me. I use it for my paints, greases, sandpapers body supplies etc However it doesnt fit back solid against the shop walls because of the metal shop framework, and **** falls behind it. I got some freebie masonite from work, and some nuts and screws at lowes. Viola instant shelf backer. This also gives me time to go through all this stuff and fill my trash can full of dried out crap, and take a written inventory what i do have. This way i dont keep buying stuff when i do have it already. I also have sterilite plastic tubs for my household plumbing, electrical, and general house stuff for the top shelf of this thing. I went through all that. Pitched a lot of metal in scrap bucket, this is the start of my general cleaning, and organizing. Sometimes ya get tired of all the crap.
