Spent the last few months trying to figure out what color to paint my car and found the color finally.
this car is not quite the same as I will paint mine but close.

Thanks again for posting your solution and walking me through the why and how. With out your post I would have been driving a dam 4x4.
 
Put my newest aquisition in the new storage unit on Sunday, now I'm waiting for spring so I can tinker on it.

still whacking on the sheet metal intake for the 273. Got the rails done today, mocked up the mounts, put the sensors on the TB and stuck it on......making progress, then ran out of fasteners. So I cleaned the block of garage dirt, pulled the pan and found a fender washer and a small bolt in the pan! Must have fallen in when the valley was uncovered. Shot some red on the back of the block where I missed on the first go round.

After 21+ years of collecting parts, setting the project aside and eventually returning, at last the Dart lives!

Now the real fun begins - debugging everything I thought I did right the first time. Among other things, the valve cover gaskets are seeping oil onto the headers (the usual MP cast cover aggravation), the old rear springs it came with are sitting nearly flat, the body panel alignment is way off, and I still need to have someone do a complete front end alignment and weld up the exhaust system joints. :realcrazy:

But I did get to drive it around the yard for a few minutes :thumbsup:

Got the new torque converter and SFI flexplate mocked up and trial fit the tranny. Dolly for transmission was repurposed from a SB engine block dolly I had made previously. K-frame dolly came from recycled 4x4 fence posts. Seems plenty stout. Rolls pretty easy.

Pulled the valve covers... Mopar Performance cast covers, rubber/steel gaskets, and iron heads are not a good combo unless you like smoky. smelly oil leaks onto the headers. Hopefully the local chain stores can get me a pair of Felpro 1610 cork gaskets quickly...

When you get the gaskets.... Take a good look at the valve cover to manifold clearance... If it's to tight you need to grind the cover for clearance. (Point/Note: the fastner gets tight, but it dose not crush the gasket)... Or get the super thick gaskets and use longer hardwear.... :)
 
Thanks... I've read MANY threads about the MP valve covers (which I should have read before buying them) :rolleyes:. There is plenty of clearance between the intake (Edelbrock RPM) and the inner cover lip. I also checked to make sure my longer Allen-head bolts aren't bottoming in the holes. But with the thinner (3/16") cork gasket I may need to go back to the shorter ones...

I once had a valve cover leak on my 7.3 IDI which was driving me nuts, until I found out that one of the outside bolt holes had crud in it and the bolt wasn't clamping!
 
I got the headliner in, not too bad for a first timer. About three days of prep and then about 2 hours of actual install time, and some cussing, all is well.

I took the Dart out for one last cruise for the season yesterday as they are calling for 5-8" of blowing snow today. Filled the tank with ethanol free Premium, added some Stabil, checked all the fluids and put it on the battery tender.
