What do you think about this cam

What do you need? Lots of members here. Somebody might have what you're lookin for cheaper. You can put a ad in the wanted section.

Recipe for you ?
There are alot of variables here. One is some day you want to build a 360.
So I would do the 318 on the cheap.
If it was mine ?
Ede performer intake.....(Idle- 5500 RPM).
Ede 600....Holley if you prefer.
Comp XE262H.....operating range 1,300-5,600 rpm. Will work with stock converter.
340 manifolds can be pricey, same as TTi's....How bout a nice set of Hookers.
Mopar Performance elec ign kit.
Got the money, put a gear set in.....3.55's ?
With the Cam,stock springs cannot be used.Use the recommended Comp springs.
While you have the heads off,do a little porting.

As Stroker mentioned, many have had great success with the 340 cam. You might get away with the stock springs/valve train with this cam. Not sure though.
340 cam P4452782

Or do a stock build like I did. :burnout:

It sounds like all you wanna do is bare bones the 318 now. I wouldn't worry about a cam change....cause then you gotta worry bout springs and maybe longer pushrods cause of a reduced base circle and all that. Intake, carb headers and tunin is what you oughtta do. You'll be able to use all that on the 360 later too.

Oh and I have an intake. It's a good one. A 72 340 intake. But two things. To run a Holley or Edelbrock, you'll need an adapter and it's heavy cause it's iron. Not real cheap to ship but they flow real good for a stock intake. You could probably buy an aluminum piece for about what mine would cost shipped....but if you want it, I'll throw it on you. lol

Stroker,let's stick with the plan.....:D
Sell that 340 to the resto guys.
Aluminum, port matching,Performer is the ticket here.

So...here's the plan ?
Stock 318
Ede performer
Ede 600
Mopar elec ign
Hookers headers
Dual exh
I actually dig these kind of builds.
Reminds me of the old speed shop days, where you would buy some bolt ons for a stock car,and bolt em on. Do some tunning, and then take her to the streets.lol
Good stuff !

I agree with ALL that except one thing. The exhaust. It's been my experience that mild 318s respond better to an HP single exhaust. Like say 2.5" off the headers into a good Y like them from Flowmaster and into one 3" pipe......BUT......since he plans to upgrade to a 360 later on, he'd be better ahead to do the duals now I believe. But no doubt dude, you got dirt road experience...and I love it. Them little motors will surprise the hell outta you everytime.

Breath in breath out. Anything would be better than the stock little pea shooter exhaust. :thumbrig:

have you guy tryed a wipplash cam from hughes just put one in and works great sound good and good power.

If you're going to do all that to your 318, you're going to want to replace the timing chain, and water pump.

I would get strokers 268 cam, if it was me. I know they don't sound badass or anything, but it would be a great cam.

Stock 318 heads lose power with cams with longer duration on the EX side, and wide lobe centers, just a little tidbit.

sorry about that stroker scamp, but it was a simple question but since none of you have any input on it the whiplash cam. It would be the way to go in a stock motor. It has got great ideal sounds like a big block worked over you dont need a stale pulls great vacuum like 16 inch pounds great cam good choice for a guy that putting carb and intake and a cheap set of headers on i just put one in a 340 and cant say enough good about it . works great. and makes way more power then the old cam did.

All I meant was that Hughes makes and markets those cams. I don't care what cam it is, it ain't gonna have great bottom end in a stock motor with a lot of duration and narrow LSA. Even with the large split and more on the exhaust, there are still better cams out there to choose from in terms of power. As for Hughes claims that those cams don't affect cylinder pressure, I would like to see proof of that with my own eyes. Just like the Thumpr cams from Comp. Same kinda deal. Will they work? Sure. If you want something more for sound, grab one. But IMO, there are better cams to be had for making power. Using clever marketing tactics may sell cams, but it doesn't necessarily make power.

No trying to start anything but this cam poped up in a pop up looks good. Not trying to start anything.

$250.00.....What ?

Thought we were doing this on the cheap ?
Thought you were staying stock with the short block ?

If you are going to cam it up, make Stroker an offer on his 268h.
Perfect cam for what your doing.

Got to make a plan and stick with it.

That's an excellent cam....although expensive. Seriously, I think Johnny is right. You should use bolt ons on the stock 318 and tweak it for best power and then do the 360. ...and the little Comp 268H is sold.

Was there not an article where they put a xe262 in a stock engine and made good power? I dont remember who did the article, but it looked good and not oversized.

No, you have both of those wrong. The top one is the XE268H. BIG difference from the 268H. Here is the 268H:

http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=619&sb=2

That is the cam that I had that I just sold. Very mild and would have been perfect for a stock upgrade.

Here is the factory 340 cam specs:

268/276 duration, .429/.444 valve lift 114 center line

The 268H as I had, was very close to the 340 cam. Comp sells it in fact, as the replacement for the 340 cam.
