What Does "Reasonable Offer" mean?

-
Then there's the guy that buys Speedmaster parts on Black Friday and resells them after Christmas for full price. lol
or the guy asking $300 for a 383/400 Holley Street Dominator intake that I paid a $150 for brand new. lol
But they don't make them anymore he says. lol

I think the reasonable response to that add would be no response. When they don't get any responses, then they got the signal.
Except that I did get a posted low ball response. Followed by a PM from another member who can read and comprehend.
The item is sold.
I research what I sell before I post anything for sale.
I think the fact that it received 9 likes shows the original price I listed it at was not out of line.
Bottom line is it's sold. I'm happy and the buyer is happy. So in the end that's all that really matters.

Dan their are two on e bay now. One is parts. Listed at $300.00
Exactly the price the low baller offered.
The other is $900. With tax and shipping.
Exactly what I listed mine at. Before anyone chimes in that's E bay prices. Sure is, except the seller last time I looked wasn't willing to take less.

You may have more patience or maybe you're not as vindictive as others. I don't know.
Sometimes you can just tell that the "buyer" is an asshole that disrespects everyone that he encounters at a swap meet.
Last Summer I had this young guy come by the house, Persian in nature.
Now, I'm not making this racial but instead, cultural. In some cultures, the bargaining for goods is a custom and is respected among them. For them, paying the asking price is NOT respected or commonly done.
It is here too to a point but when I set a price for a part that is about what I would pay if I needed it....and the "buyer" offers a fraction of that price, I'm going to be pissed.
THIS guy bought several things from me at a swap meet while he openly admitted that I had stuff priced much lower than others at the meet. He came to the house a week or so later for stuff I didn't bring to the swap meet. I worked him a really fair deal on a bunch of small parts totaling $90, then he saw that I had an original but almost perfect rear seat for a Duster/Dart Sport. This assclown offered $100 for the parts if I included the rear seat.
Really? A seat that would cost you over $500 to duplicate with new skins and this idiot essentially offered ten dollars for it? I was polite but said no.
He called a week later and before he could get three words out, I calmly told him that I won't sell anything to him anymore because he made a completely unreasonable offer that pissed me off. I said goodbye and then blocked his number.
I'll do that to anyone that is dumb enough to make an offer that is just too stupid to consider.
I lived in Iran in the early 70's and can vouch for the bargaining culture. It is expected. I've seen some heated arguments over such bargaining too. Nothing personal, just business! Too bad you did not speak Farsi. Would have been a fun exchange I'm sure!!!

If you can't control your emotions and get offended by a low offer that's on you.
If the buyer can't take no for an answer and turns into a jerk because they didn't get their way that's a different story.

You can make on offer of any kind and still be respectful and polite.
Was sorta my point. I find no offense if someone says no.

I've seen them sell for 900.

Exactly. "reasonable offer" means they will sell for less. What that price is and what I am willing to pay are usually 2 different things. That's where the negotiations begin.

Right. People who get their little girl panties all in a wad probably shouldn't be selling. Negotiation comes with the territory.

Then that would read "blah blah blah, asking 2500. Make an offer, most I can say is no". Then any offer is just that... an offer. I've seen that in adds a ton. Reasonable offer means "come on guys, I'm not taking 90% off the price"... LOL

Selling a car 700 firm right out the gate and worth more than that. Spend an hour looking it over. They him and haw... would you take 350. Turned the car off, locked it up, closed the hood, thanked them for coming out and told them where the exit to the community was located. Sold it to next person with a 10 minute look around for 700 and they were happy to have it.

Was selling something else 25K firm, maybe a LITTLE room to move, not much. Offered 17K, waste of time.

Brand new in the box Scat 4" crank... at the time they were about 295, had it marked at 225. Someone offered $50 LOL I **** you not, one of the best gut busters EVER The guy standing near him thought he was an asshole as well from the look on his face and laughing.

If it a priced correctly OBO type deal and I know and YOU know what it is worth, then you offer 25% of what it's worth, you lose the good faith bargaining advantage. You KNOW what I want, and you choose the path we will follow.
I liked it best when at swaps and those types were wanting something, someone else walks up and wants it, offers a better price and sell it. But I was wanting that, someone wanted it more and just because you started a negotiation on a rough patch doesn't mean I've accepted your counter. It's a double edge sword in many respects.

I have a set of 1 7/8 hooker SB A Body race headers. You'd think with some of the offers I got, they were rusted out Blackjacks that met a few speed bumps. :)

I never get insulted by an offer, I do know how I will carry on any negotiations after an initial offer. Sometimes I laugh, say no, no reply, whatever. Don't care.

Get me $500 and I'll get that trash off your lawn
GET OFF MY LAWN.jpg

If the asking price is reasonable and fair.... PAY IT!
At a "mopar" swap meet I saw a well known mopar guy dicker,, browbeat and harang a guy for a lower price on a part he wanted.
The seller had the ULTRA-rare chrome one-piece hemi crossram air cleaner. Was asking $400. I think he took 250-300 for it just to get rid of the buyer.
The buyer then promptly took it to his stall..... and posted a price of $2000 on it.
I have had no respect for the well known buyer/mopar racer for the 20 years since, and I think I bought a total of one can of engine paint from him. I really wanted that can of paint . I would have bought ANYWHERE else if I could have.
If it's worth more than he's asking...... pay the f#@king price!

That's Mitchell Motor Parts tactics, right there (or whatever they're calling themselves these days).

think the same dude ran by my swap spot. offered some absolutely basement price on something i had and his friends were visibly embarrassed.

exactly my move. i understand it's a swap meet and there's a little gamesmanship at play, but come correct or suffer the consequences.

Seen that more times than I can count... Still pisses me off... If the guys price is fair or in this case ridiculously low... Pay him & while I would still think it's low class to resell it the same day I wouldn't think your a complete dirtbag... Beat him down then jack it to the sky & you've shown us all you are an asshole...

That's about the only thing I'll kinda get bent about in wheeling and dealing. To see someone immediately put something up for sale for three times what they bought it from me for. But really, in the end, that's not my business.

That said, sellers want as much as they can get and buyers want to pay as little as possible. It's been like that since the beginning of time. If you're not ready for that, then maybe stay home.

if you can't afford to buy, please don't piss me off with a half price offer. I know I can't be the only one that will respond in anger and maybe even RAISE the price just to piss you off in return.
I once was selling a lower end video card, new, for $125(very good price for it), some asshat messaged me and offered me $25 for it. I politely told him that Id rather bring it to his house and smash it in front of him rather than sell it to him.
Sold it for the full price the next day.

Going to Fling and having the two knuckles from the major high desert seller that no longer shows trying to dig through your stuff before it's unloaded and try to grab stuff on the cheap to take to their space and price it way higher. Told them to beat it every time.

Had a fun one somewhere with the head honcho walked by, had a grille, another guy asked how much, I told him, honcho says he'll take it... I told him for you it was double the price I quoted this guy... LOL Known flippers don't get the same price that regular folks get. :)

Not all sellers are greedy pigs either. I list and sell stuff all the time at fair or lower than a fair price to move it.
It's the 4 price approach to me
high, never sell, or will hold for a long time. (wife wants the car gone, 10K car, 20K asking... I'm trying to sell it LOL)
next is the might move in a few months price
then the move in a week or two price
then the right now it's gone price.

What i learned a long time ago is to know what you have is worth .....it worth what someone is willing to pay for it ....
So many people have no idea what they have is worth ....so if im looking for something I find out what others have paid for it first
I hate to haggle you asking $$$ I looking for that I know it's worth $$$ then im paying that for it if i see it for $$ and I know it's worth $$$ I might just buy it to resell it ...why haggle....if they are asking $$$$ why waste time with them .....now sometimes looking at a car or something if I find problems then I'll haggle...or walk away

If I get what I want, I'm happy. I'm sure somebody made money off me. But a few times I've made money off them as well... LOL
