Selling a car 700 firm right out the gate and worth more than that. Spend an hour looking it over. They him and haw... would you take 350. Turned the car off, locked it up, closed the hood, thanked them for coming out and told them where the exit to the community was located. Sold it to next person with a 10 minute look around for 700 and they were happy to have it.
Was selling something else 25K firm, maybe a LITTLE room to move, not much. Offered 17K, waste of time.
Brand new in the box Scat 4" crank... at the time they were about 295, had it marked at 225. Someone offered $50 LOL I **** you not, one of the best gut busters EVER The guy standing near him thought he was an asshole as well from the look on his face and laughing.
If it a priced correctly OBO type deal and I know and YOU know what it is worth, then you offer 25% of what it's worth, you lose the good faith bargaining advantage. You KNOW what I want, and you choose the path we will follow.
I liked it best when at swaps and those types were wanting something, someone else walks up and wants it, offers a better price and sell it. But I was wanting that, someone wanted it more and just because you started a negotiation on a rough patch doesn't mean I've accepted your counter. It's a double edge sword in many respects.
I have a set of 1 7/8 hooker SB A Body race headers. You'd think with some of the offers I got, they were rusted out Blackjacks that met a few speed bumps.
I never get insulted by an offer, I do know how I will carry on any negotiations after an initial offer. Sometimes I laugh, say no, no reply, whatever. Don't care.
