I am trying to figure out where I should tie into my harness to bring power to console for shifter indicator light and cigar lighter. Original column shift 68 barracuda auto. I will bring the reverse shift light from the original column and extend the wires to reach. I am thinking I should tie into the orange wires that are factory spliced for the indicator light (I think that is a power feed), then run a ground to somewhere? and maybe just tie into the dash cigar lighter wiring for the console too?

Also I've been working on harness. I found a broken tab on the steering column to dash clip (in pictures) does anyone know if these type of connectors can be found anywhere for sale, or what they are called.
Thanks

Have you looked over the diagram. Even Dart/ Valiant will be similar. You need an orange dimmer controlled dash lighting wire for the shift quadrant/ tach/ etc

You could run a new wire right from the fuse panel for the lighter

If you have courtesy lights you need to tie into the yellow dome wiring........this is the switched ground side.........and a power wire. For that you could T off from the lighter to one side of the courtesy lamps

The connector you have there is the turn signal switch and will do you little good

Yes I have a courtesy light that is under dash passenger side as well as courtesy lights in rear pillars no dome light though.

So the orange wires in the first picture are dimmer controlled so I will simply run a new wire soldered at the same point as the factory soldered connection.

The broken connector from the turn signal switch is for the brake/stop switch the little tab on the end broke off. I will most likely just wire it with a spade connector I'm guessing.

Curious on this type of factory wiring connection (orange wires), they look like the wires themselves are melted together without any solder?
(EDIT) Although I did add a little solder myself as the wires were frayed a bit, I was about to seal it up when I thought about the console shift light.

That's a welded splice.
If you need to splice you can solder but I also like the open barrel crimps. 67Dart273 has posted a link to a Chrysler ref on using them for splicing.
For the terminals, I assume you have 'open barrel' terminals and crimpers. If not, also do a search here for 'Chrysler terminals'

To answer your question about converting to console - use the factory wiring diagram and the pdfs that we've linked to in other posts.

For what you want to do, the Faxon book with the assembly drawings is also very helpful.
Its not the best quality reproductions and has annoying watermark but its still worth the $35.
The drawings show where the console cable connects to the main instrument cable, etc. etc
68 is different than 67.

In my 67, I tapped console lighter well into wire at dash lighter well. Shift indicator lamp tapped into radio lamp wire. Your 68 may have a ashtray lamp that uses same orange wire. My console has ground wire attached at radio support to dash.
