When I had the /6 still in my Duster I drove it all over Sweden. Since then I have completely swapped out the driveline and have a hot rodded 273 commando. I'm nervous to take this thing anywhere far even though it's never broken down on me. I mean, If I had another Mopar as a daily I would take the /6 over an 8 any time. Not all cars need to sound like a v8 or have a lot of power to be enjoyable, at least thats what I think.

I love when the V8 guys get bored enough with their own cars to troll the Slant Six group.

I pulled the slant and auto in favor for a 340 4 speed. Biggest regret of my life. I did it because I got passed on the highway by a shitty little Kia and there was nothing I could do about it. Now that my kids are on my insurance policy which made it skyrocket up, I can't justify passing said Kia for fear of even higher insurance rates from a speeding ticket. Plus my slanty with 180K got great gas mileage, I would not hesitate to take it on a trip cross country, start up in sub zero weather, it's just a dependable little critter that sipped 87 octane rather than gulping 93.

Few years back at a mopar event My wife and her 340 Duster ran and beat a Hemi road runner, 440 6 pack Challenger, 383 Coronet, and a new RT Challenger. She finally got taken out by a slant 6 dart running low 11's.

I never had a \6 BUT, my grandfather did. in a 77 Valiant, and that thing was pushing 300,000 miles and never skipped a beat, bone stock it was for the 225, but was getting some really nice mileage and was a great car to travel in and was reliable as stated above, never a problem with that car......

The funny part is the car was bought from the Baltimore Taxi back in I THINK was 1978 or '79, and yes, it HAD a lot of miles on it then, never mind when it was sold for scrap *GULP* in I THINK was 2001.........

I had a slant truck, 1986 2wd with 727 transmission, it got 14 MPG and foot was to the floor most of the time, bought a 318 engine/ 727 from same year truck, and get 16 MPG and never have to go over 1/4 throttle and can cruise at 70 MPH all day

like I said, cars good; trucks useless

Well, I drove my 71 swinger powered by a 225 350 miles last last year to pigeon forge. I got the question a lot. I just said, There were about 3000 cars. There were a few mopars. Even fewer with a /. How many have you seen with a 4bbl and header. Nuff said. I got 23 mpg running the a/c.
Even around the small town cruise-ins I get a lot of "why a 6". If I had a V8 nobody would ask about it. That's why the /

It's the happiest little engine in the world. My background is all about big engines and blown nitro, so I get the horsepower thing. But, I've got two Slants in my current fleet...64 Dart 170 is my daily driver. I LOVE that thing! It's just so agricultural, primitive, simple...happy. It's the ultimate 40 mph around-town car/engine combination.
As for hot rodded Slants? Just too cool. I can recall several occasions when I was ass deep in a Funnycar or Digger between rounds, and dropped what I was doing to run to the fence to watch a hot Slant make a pass. Some day I'll build one for myself. Anybody got a cheap aluminum block collecting dust?

They don't sound like a sewing machine once they warm up. That lifter tick goes away on mine, but I see what sound you're talking about. Just switch the carb and they sound different.
