Just looking to see what people think on this. Have a 70 Dart swinger with a 318 that is bone stock except for dual exhaust and a 1970 340 4 barrel intake. How much carb do you think that engine could take without overfueling?

I personally would keep the 2 barrel. Had a 70 Plymouth 318 with a Carter BBD. Ran great. For street use can think of nothing better for that car.

I’ve been a fan of the 600-650 holleys as well as the 625 carter competition. They would be good for a stoke engine.

I ran a 600 Holley with vacuum secondaries on my stock 318 and an Offenhauser Dual Port 360 intake. That and a set of headers livened it up quite a bit.

cheap 'ol TQ (with an adapter or a cheap 360 intake) . small primaries and huge secondaries that will supply you with all it can gulp, keyword "all it can gulp" as the secondaries are velocity sensing so they will only open as far as needed.

I had a 1973 low-C teener in good shape that I used for a winter-engine, in my 68FormulaS . The car had TTIs and dual full-length 3" pipes. I put a small-Primary TQ on it,and some 5500rpm springs on it, and had a blast with that combo. Some winters with an automatic, sometimes with a stick, sometimes with race gears and sometimes not. Every winter, was a new adventure.

Mopar Tim's 570 would work great. But anything around 600 would be an improvement. If you are good with carbs, a TQ would really perform.
I've had a few 100% bone stock 318 2 bbl's with duals, and always gained by going to a 4bbl. I usually held them to at least 4600 rpms, some 4800 rpm's with the duals and 4bbl and stock manifods.

A 500-600 cfm Edelbrock type or a small primary Thermoquad. A LD4B Edelbrock manifold works well with the Edelbrocks.

1405 600 CFM Edelbrock with manual choke or 1406 with the electric choke.
Agreed, very simple carburetor and very reliable and easy to work on for the hobbyist. I've went with both the carburetors mentioned and went with the Holly because I was green with my mean 318 back when I was a teen and I didn't know any better. And I now that I've have a little bit more experience with carburetors if I was going for some serious Max effort I would definitely go with the Holley carburetor because of its adjustability but the Edelbrocks make great horsepower and make easy adjustments for the hobbyist and are not prone to problems. pretty much get them set and you're good to go. I am right now about to throw one on the 360 with a stock 4 barrel intake just like you have that had a 2 Barrel on it and I have a free Edelbrock carburetor that's some ding dong for some stupid reason figured it was no good and bought a new one. They rarely if ever go bad especially if you just had it like he did lol I can't stop, pay a hundred plus dollars to have someone rebuild it and then still say there's problems with it and go buy a new one and still have the same problems and give this one to me O boy. I LOVE MY CHEVY FRIENDS!!!
You guys know I try and help, but when I do and am told "I got a brain !" "I'm ot stupid" that's more than I need to keep my mouth shut and gladly smill and accept what looked like a brand new carburetor that had been just rebuilt oh yeah that was given to me in the box from the brand new one so it almost looked as if it was a brand new carburetor and a brand new box! But the real coup de gras will be hopefully here in the next month or two when I finally had the track together and I take the hour and a half drive to his house with that carburetor on the truck and drive it back home! Oh wait a minute it's getting late that might have been a whole different story....

Too much carburetor I don't think so lol my last 318 no wait the 318 before that had the Dual quads on it! No a good 600 Edelbrock 1406 with the electric. Just make sure you put a whole 12 volts to the electric choke! Not the nine volt from the ballast resistor! That's how I got one of my carburetors from a Chevy guy LOL he didn't have a whole 12 volts going to the electric choke. I was over there picking up scrap metal and he got all mad it was still warm and full of gas and running fine on the truck! But that damn choke! I can get it to work he said LOL unbolted it and gave it to me and told me to take it to scrap! It's the back carburetor on my dual quad setup on my Stroker motor right now and it's the one that I use for the choke! With a whole 12 volts...
It's getting late I'm tired I'm done but I'll tell you one thing this new phone I got today it sure does work good on voice command!
