340 stroker 422

Hi

I recently started building a 340 stroker.
The block was rough so we went with 4.100 bore. Walls are still thick so it should be fine.
I got:
- Molnar 4.000” crank
- Scat 6.123” rods
- Wiseco k0144a100 flat top pistons
- Very nicely ported RPM heads
- Performer rpm intake
- Felpro 1008 head gaskets .039” thick
- Hydraulic roller cam 232/[email protected] 108lsa .565” lift

Cam card calls for 104 icl, after retard of 2 degrees it came up at 104.5 degrees.

It was all nice till I realized my compression status. It’s going to be 11.83:1 static and 10.12:1 dynamic…

Is there any chance for this to work on premium pump gas?

This is a street car setup with small cam. I was disappointed about nothing done to the chambers but price was good so really can’t complain.
This is what I used for something built to make some power.

I thought your cam was ground on 108 LSA. Hence my comment about installing it at 108 ICL, which is 'straight up'. Straight up means the ICL, ECL & LSA are the same. If you advanced this cam 4*, the ICL is 104 & ECL is 112.

There is cam card attached in post 42.
 
Select a bigger cam, better yet give a cam grinder a call and never go with a thicker gasket.
The gasket should always be figured in when mapping the build.

This is correct. Lower compression and less quench often still results in detonation.
 
Circle scribed is 4.110”
Chambers are 64cc, I checked today.

Why not try 93 "real" gas , 3 something a gallon around here ...

Is it possible that I gained almost 3.5cc that easy? Looks to be 67.5cc chamber already.
Will measure it again tomorrow to make sure will also see other chambers to see how they compare. If thats the case, then I'm at 11.25:1

I also retarded the cam and now its at 106.5 ICL. This timing set has only 2 and 4 degrees retard and advance.
 
I just used the diamond pistons calculator
6cc piston dish. .240” top ring down.
4.18 gasket bore.
Piston .010 down and yr 67.5cc chamber.
11.1 with a .040” gasket
10.8 with a .050 gasket

He's getting close, I figured some chamber work was needed anyway, could use a tad more.

I cleaned the chambers further and unshrouded the valves. Will measure tomorrow whats the current cc. If my measurments are correct it will work no problem.
I built 446ci big block this year which was 11.3:1 with 244@050 solid flat tappet cam and RPM heads. It ran on standard gas just fine when the temperature stayed belowe 180 degrees. Finally we ended up putting different tstat in it and now it runs perfect on premium gas with 32 degrees advance and distributor curved to all in at 2200rpm. This is in a 56 dodge truck with 3.23 rear end with 3500 stall converter in 727.

Im not sure why you want the timing all in by 2200? IMO that’s too quick. You almost have the timing locked out like that.

@Miszny If your or cookietruck’s calculations are correct, build it and send it, your in where you need to be. As stated earlier, I’m running a 11.09-1 - 360 engine on US pump 93 octane without issue. Intake duration of the Hyd roller is 224@050.

Im not sure why you want the timing all in by 2200? IMO that’s too quick. You almost have the timing locked out like that.
The truck needs also carbs done, has cross ram intake, it’s running rich. Weather went to the toilet quicker this year.
We will work on the distributor and carbs in spring but the fact it’s not pinging like that gives me hope.

What curve would you suggest for this?
I have all msd springs for the distributor.
It turned out very fast, weighs only 3120 with full tank of gas, no driver.
