73 Duster build named Fred

How come you only used 1/2 of the parking spot ?
Actually, I did use the entire parking spot. Started all the way forward up against the curb and by the time I came out of the store, Fred had slowly rolled to the very back end of the stall which resulted in using the entire spot!

This is what happens when you think you are in park and you really are not.

Lol, call wasi !

The beef showed up today so it looks like tomorrow morning it will be out with the old and in with the new. 31 spline true trac with 4.10’s getting replaced with 40 spline gun drilled axles, pro (big bearing pinion) 4.30’s spooled and 5/8” studs. Hopefully the weather will clear up in the next few days so I can take Fred for a rip.

Roger,

Here's the answer to your question. :steering:

Fred with a complete interior! Fred is officially completed. I have a car show on the 27th and then plan on hitting the track the following week. I’ll keep everyone updated. This new converter however is not flashing as high as the old one, once I verify 60ft, rpm, and mph I’ll send it back for an adjustment. Besides that Fred’s running great!

I am thinking about making some type of graphic to identify the car as The Duster known as Fred! Bill any ideas? Or if anyone else has an idea let me know….Ty

Right on Roger, that looks great.

Fred came out amazing! Way nicer than I could have ever imagined! Nice work Roger! I am honored and thankful for you completing the build and keeping the name Fred. I'll come up with some ideas and make a few shirts for you and your son. Maybe a front license plate as well.

Bill, Thank you! However, I can’t take all the credit you gave me one hell of a start to this project. You had it mechanically sound and running great! I am so lucky I was able to snag Fred off you before anyone else did.

Wow that car came out beautiful. How much weight do you think you added with the interior stuff?

Can't be much. Carpet, door panels and headliner. Maybe 35 pounds? Hell, the paint job probably added more weight!

Just wondering if the weight added offsets any engine upgrades.
I wouldn’t think so or hope not! I just changed the camshaft, reworked the heads, added speed pro gas ported rings and different converter. I’d guess around 50 pounds added. I did put a factory trunk lid on tho. However, the new doors have been lightened up so saved some weight there.

Get out there and get us a time slip!!! What are you waiting for?
:poke:

From what I can see so far by driving Fred. Converter not flashing as high as old one, so more than likely will need to send it back. Motor seems to want more rpm, so a gear change may be coming. First I will be going to the track in the next couple weeks to see the change in 60ft and mph. Then I can plan my next steps.

Welp quick update. Went to a car show last weekend. Took first place in class and also took a trophy for sponsors pick! However, lost reverse gear. So, track delayed a little longer. Trans is out and one of the steel rings on the stator was really worn and broke. Need to replace the stator, replace steel rings with teflon rings and will also replace all steel and friction plates just because. Also sent converter back to turbo action. Track day will be August 16th as long as I get the converter back in time. A buddy rented the track this day.

I'm glad you got it handled Roger.
I wonder if that affected the converter performance at all ?

I don’t think so since it broke this past weekend. I’ve driven the car locally prior. But I’m sure it was losing a little pressure. Which would actually cause it to appear to stall higher. Only affected reverse and third gear.

This is a good reminder to me, I am going through my transmission for a double check as soon as I get ahold of Chris and see if I need anything else with the possibility of 750 hp.
