73 Duster resto..

Looking good. Tail panel turned out nice.
Yeah I agree. That's what happens when you let a pro handle the work haha. Almost there and then assembly time, hoping to have it together by end of thanksgiving weekend would be awesome.

UPDATE****** Car is in primer!!! Car will be towed to the shop to be painted thursday or friday.

was kinda true, but not at true as I had hoped. The car was getting done by my fathers friend who had family that did awesome work on low riders and were in low rider magazines. The issue came along when they change the quote they gave him by a lot. So the car is back home and I will be doing the body work... :wack:....The engine bay has been wire wheeled down and primered. It needs more filler work and sanding then another coat of primer to seal it all in then color!...The fenders were taken off and the underside on the car were wire wheeled also to take off surface rust and undercoating. Next they were coated with rust encapsulator.

The wire wheeled parts were coated with rust encapsulator and I actually like that flat look, so after I put some stuff between the fenders and the mount place and they are bolted on, I will grind down the rest of the underside of the fenders and frame and encapsulate all that as well, but those ares are not that important as getting the car in primer, so they will wait!

I know that you can see the door jambs are have encapsulated and half original color, but after I decided to go full encapsulator because you won't really see that area and that is where a lot of water and wet leafs get stuck.

Photos don't show up big enough, so I will upload them monday. I am going with a new color though. No one knows but my family and a member on here who is my good friend. This should be fun. :smilebox:

No one reads it, but here are more pictures. I wire wheeled areas that had surface rust and sprayed etch primer over them. The whole car is DAed, but still need to do tail panel, fenders, and doors. Then it's off to primer tonight!

hey good job on what you have done so far.But please dont stop updating your post.I want to do to my 73 what you are doing to yours. But i might turn my 73 into a 72 duster.but keep up the great work and keep posting pictures please. thanks Mopar65

I have said it before on this forum....good old Billy Bob trades something for a nasty old greasy pair of valve covers, paints them (over the grease) takes a blurry picture you can hardly see and gets like 100 comments (with lots of misspelling and grammer mistakes) on how great they look and what a good job he's doing. And someone like yourself who invests tons of hours, money and wants a quality product when he's done gets nothing, I know we don't do this for others but it's nice to know your not wasting your time posting the progress for others to see.

Now that I have that out of the way, let me say nice work and I am waiting to see the progress and the new paint color choice.

nice work mike, you've come a long way! first time ive seen your build thread. i dont check out members restorations much, but i should...lots of great ideas...

Thanks guys, it really means a lot coming from you. A lot of you help me on here a lot more than others and there are more that help me. Without your guys help, I would still be in stock paint and the same motor. I really do appreciate everything and everyone on this site even if I do tend to bug a little much.

**UPDATE**
The car is in primer!!! DUSTYA_383 and I took it to CCOC, the adult education place and painted it! 3 coats on everything, but the doors. They got 2 coats. Picked it up this morning and even baked it for half an hour at 140. Not to bad for spraying for his first time. I was going to spray it, then he was like, you are doing it wrong haha, took the gun and never gave it back. Worked out great and ready to go back together and be blocked this weekend.

Here they are!!!!:blob:

Oh yea pretty proud of my self hahah blocking is gonna be fun hahaha get that guide coat ready

You are doing a great job, keep up the good work.
That was a pretty clean car you had to start with.

Hey buddy, sorry I didn't check in on the thread after you pm'ed me until now. Looking real good!. Looks like progress is coming right along for you!.

A little bummed to hear you decided to change colors lol but I have faith you still made a good choice!. Can't wait to see it.

I know you and I have done ALOTTTTTTTT of pm'ing back and forth and I have gave you a lot of advice and I'm sure you have weeded through my build thread a time or two now also lol. And I hope all of it has been a help to you and came in handy. Looks like your doing good work though!. Don't be shy on posting pics and info of your progress. Rather 1,000 people read/post on your updates or not. I know me and a few others at the least enjoy seeing your progress!.

Keep up the good work!.

Yeah I know and I appreciate it a lot you really help me out along with the other people on this site. I had to change the color I just started seen too many purple dusters. This color I have only seen on one Mopar recently it's not a Mopar color and I think everyone will like it when it is done. I will give a hint to the color though, one of the cars in the form of member restorations has this color and it's not purple or gold :p

cool.

yeah, theres alot of purple cars, also alot of orange, green, blue etc...etc... I didnt build my car for others, i built it for me. so I went with the purple lol.

that.....and there arent many purple cars around here....let alone old mopars. so played out color or not....around here anyways it will still stand one in its own.

But I don't blame you. I went through the color debate myself and just when i thought I had it figured out on a few occasions I ended up flip flopping on my decision lol. in the end though, I stuck with plum crazy.

keep up the momentum!

There is a lot left to do to the car. I'm going home for Super Bowl weekend, so I should have a week or two to do sanding of the primer and spray the last two coats of primer before wet sanding and sealer. I am hoping to work on the engine bay also, so that I can get it painted and drop the engine in. I need to find someone to weld the J bars in because everyone with a welder seems to not want to help at all. I have to take classes for this because it seems without it, I can't complete a lot and if I take the classes, I will be able to do anything to a car.

UPDATE*****

We blocked the car with 180 and guide coat. We also taped off all the body lines and the first round of blocking reveled only 3 small low spots and a couple low spots. WE put two more coats of primer on last night and next time we start up we will begin to wet sand with 400 and then 600 and seal!

Awesome!. Sounds like your making progress!.

I'm just waiting for warmer weather to come back here in mi so I can finally finish up my duster. It's been a fun 4 years but ill be glad to be finish on it. So I know where you have been on your project and I can tell you that you are getting closer!. Once you get some paint on it THEN you will feel the most like your hard work is starting to pay off.

Keep up the good work!

Yes I agree the hardest thing has been finding someone to weld these damn J bars on in the engine bay so I can paint the engine bay and put the engine in:angry7:
