It's supposed to be the two hottest days of the year tomorrow and Monday. 100 degrees. I figured that would be a great test for my engine and cabin cooling systems...:thumbsup:..
 
Well today is the day I will attempt the impossible....
To be cooler than I already am....:D...

Had to bump the nitrous fuel pump up just an inch to get clearance for the low side pressure gauge to snap on. But so far so good we'll see if it holds pressure for I mean vacuum LOL..

Well it seems I'm having a difficult time getting this charged. At first it wouldn't take anything and seemed like it was just leaking back out. I took the high side off completely and it seemed almost the high side Schrader valve was leaking. So I just connected the low side only and then it seemed to be taking freon. And the pressure finally came on. But still don't quite have it. It was getting so gosh damn hot out I just kind of gave up after a while. Probably going to try to get later when it cools off..
 
I am not an expert, but the most critical part for me is making the transition from vacuum to Freon. You have to be really careful about bleeding the lines so you don’t put air in the system.
 
That’s definitely good then. What did your gauges read after you charged it? I assume you out about two cans in.

well I was a little confused by the videos I seen where when they purged the line out you can see obvious freon. when I purge the line all I could hear was a little air and it sure didn't come out cold. Also everything I seen and read said not to turn the can upside down or anyting.. so here I am purging away thinking where the hell is he freon? Anyways I seem to not be able to fill the system for whatever reason... Compressor wouldn't come on well it was running. I brought it back inside to give it a think does it seem to have a leak.. I went around tightening all the connections I had a suspicion about the high side connection to the compressor so I changed the o-ring. I felt that the high side Schrader valve was leaking with the line connected to it. So I disconnected it as it's not needed. Then I went to put some freon in the system again after bringing the vacuum down to 30 pounds. And it seemed to start taking Freon and bringing up the pressure past 20. So I took it outside and by this time it's getting way past 90 degrees out. And this time the compressor did come on. By that time I was out of freon so I had to go get a couple more cans. I think I turn the system off and both the gauges went up to like 90 or something and it freaked me out seeing the low side at 90. But I believe with the system off its supposed to level out LOL.. so I start running it again.. I go get a couple more cans of freon and try some more but it just didn't seem to come up and it's not cooling and everything is getting hot besides me lol...
I may just need to put more freon in it it should start to work... The high side was about 150 and the low side was about 10.. when I put the gauges on right now they both pop up to about 90. So it is holding pressure. At this point I'm just wondering if I need to tip the cans around to get it to come out better..
 
I always hold the cans upside down and even lift it above the gauges to get it all emptied. Don’t know why that would be a bad thing. When you purge, it should only take a few seconds before some Freon comes out. Then you crack open the low side and you should be able to see it flowing in through the sight glass in the gauges. With it being that hot outside, I think you should expect around 40-50 on the low side and 150-200ish on the high side. That’s what my system read the other day and it blows nice and cold.
 
I do two thing to get it filled on a hot day.
1. Hose down the condenser constantly to lower the low side pressure.
When the engine is idling on a hot day, the system pressures go up, making it harder to fill.

2. Put the Freon can in a bucket of hot water to raise the pressure in the can. Don’t get the can tap wet.
When gas is flowing out of the can, the can cools, lowering the pressure.

I am too dumb to put it in as liquid, so I stay away from that.

edit: said evaporator in first post, meant condenser (the one in front or radiator).

Yeah I'm feeling a little of that myself...
Also I have an incredibly long large low side line because of my custom fit so I may need a little more Freon than most...
 
To keep the air out even when I reconnect the line back I out a little Freon out of the system just a tidbit to clear the line of any air..
 
With pressures of 10 low and 150 high (which are low for both sides), that says you just need more Freon.

I thought about trying to cool the condenser but it's hard to get too and it has the Pusher fan on it and a puller fan on the radiator side so I assumed it would just start throwing water all over everything..
 
This is one reason why the commercial HVAC world uses nitrogen to pressure test. That and large centrifugal chillers can hold 800 lbs of refrigerant. :D
