California save water

Submarine showers:

Water on, walk in, get wet, water off

Lather, water on, rinse off, water off

hand sanitizer & lots of deodorant when the water is real low

they have those special kits for toilets now...

Will it really get to the point, water from somewhere else, to grow the crops here in California, for the rest of the USA, and have the beef for the supermarkets, or McDonalds hamburgers. :dontknow:

It will. With socialism, we will export water to California they way we exported electricity from Texas.
The farmers are the real victims here.
In Texas, the businesses can waste a tremendous amount; where the farmers are penalized.

Why don't the purify the damn ocean water?? It's possible to do!!

Because they can't figure out how to charge the people for the cost and get away with it yet, so it's not financially productive for them to do it.
Our Gov is either so stupid and/or self important and that it can't see ahead far enough to realize that if they trash our economy and screw the working people enough there won't be anyone to grow their food or wipe their asses for them when they get old.
How do you make someone that doesn't have an income pay taxes?

Unless I'm missing something it seems to me that there is no concern for our future, just theirs.

I believe your right, there.

We desalinize the ocean on our submarines for drinking water & engine room freshwater, but I wonder how efficient we are. We utilize a nuclear reactor as a high output energy source and I wonder how much electricity is required for desalinization.

I thought that I heard that the process requires allot of energy and is a large/expensive plant to create. The ocean is FULL of living organisms that fowl up equipment. All of the inlets would get barnacles, and clogs that would be cost prohibitive as I understand it.

The general concept among many is to build Nuclear Powerplants at the base of all the rivers headed out to the sea (& put desalinization plants RIGHT NEXT to them)-after events like Japan, 3 mile island, Chernobyl, it is EXTREMELY difficult to build a Reactor now with all of the federal regulation.

Ok then, question #2... WHY THE HECK WOULD ANYONE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA????!!!! Lol!!

Ok then, question #2... WHY THE HECK WOULD ANYONE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA????!!!! Lol!!

Because for me it's a lot better than the city and state that i was raised in. That's why.
When i discharged out of the Air Force, after serving 7 years, i just stayed here.
My choice, my choosing, i happen to like it where i am.

What is it called? Reverse osmosis? Or something like that? Basically filters the salt out of the water.

If it was Oil, they would build a pipeline around the globe! NOT water. I predict the next World war will be fought over......WATER.:wack:MT

My words exactly . I was in New Orleans three weeks ago The first Monday we were there it rained 1 3/4 " in an hour. Somewhere in the South its flooding from October to April. if we can put a pipe line in for oil 2000 miles long why can't we make flood reservoir to collect flood water and pumping stations . California has a lot of waist land . You can dam up small valleys and fill them. Not far fetch its just not oil . A project like this would create jobs and help remedy two problems.

too many water needs and not enough water. Don't forget Las Vegas uses water form the same sources [mostly].

There has been talk about building a dam or two, in Northern California, for more water storage, but they have figured into the problem, where would the water come from?
There just isn't any more water to capture and save, other than what the winter snow pack, up in the Sierras puts into the rivers, that flows into the dams that we allready have.
And again this year, didn't get much of a snow pack up in the mountains at all.
Gonna be a real bad year for water.

The Colorado River. Source is Rocky Mountain National Park. On the western side of the divide. Colorado, the birthplace for the water source to Las Vegas, and all other cities. Well, a MAJOR source anyway. Yet states other than Colorado are trying to limit CO on the amount they can use. Denver uses a lot of water, population is in the millions, including the surrounding 'burbs. Fortunately for the Eastern Range, there has been good snow fall the last several years, the snowpack has been good. My brother who lives in Lakewood, SE of Denver, is close to Bear Creek Reservoir. That thing is FULL to the top! Boats are not allowed yet because of the high water, and still good amount of water is flowing in. The SW of the US has undergone droughts over many years. States and some cities are just foolish with the way they use water. Misters in Las Vegas to help cool people! And the fountains. Any restrictions on them? A solution will be found when the rich and powerful have to change their lifestyle dramatically.

I propose a big money venture, pipeline from the great lakes to calif. who`s in? lol:D
We`ll make a fortune!

Uhhhmmmm... No.... #-o

If you want our water come here and pay the taxes for it. We're not going to let you suck our water supply dry to put us in your position.... :finga:

They've been proposing that pipeline for years now... It's a "pipe dream"... Not gonna happen.... :evil3:

Move near the great lakes or buy bottled water... :protest:

Now they want to run the Keystone pipeline over the largest aquafur in the country. If it leaks, the water supply could get contaminated, but that doesn't matter or concern the oil companies. They will minimize their efforts to clean it up, and then apologize later....

I do try my part to conserve water...

For every time I pee in my yard, I save a flush! And water my lawn at the same time!

I live next to Lake Michigan and have the majority of my life. I have seen the lake level get crazy high, to crazy low, where it is now. Water level has dropped close to 8 feet in the last 20 years. Reason? I think because of these two. The Chicago River has been opened up to let more water out. It doesn't take a crazy amount, just enough over time. The warm winters, where there is no ice cover allows water to evaporate. Another reason, that I heard, is that the Army Corp of Engineers deepened the St. Clair River to navigation for shipping. What that did is essentially allowed more water to leave the upstream lakes.

From Texas to California, nature sees a desert. Nature will always see a desert. The Hoover Dam was built to assure water to those regions. Now, even Lake Mead is drying up. Nature is winning. Again. Man might make small, temporary influences, but nature will always win in the long term.

Same with New Orleans. Nature sees a swamp. Man has tried his best to see a city. Nature sees a swamp and always will. There are parts of New Orleans that sink on average of 1" a year. Nature will win the battle in the long run. Count on it.

There are regions of this country and the rest of the world that never see drought conditions, yet, when droughts affect regions where they are SUPPOSED to, everybody hollers how the sky is fallin.

same problem we have in the Cascades , no snow this year. Eastern washington depends on snow pack for irrigation. Piping from flood plains is doable. I would think were more advanced then the Romans who built viaducts that went for hundreds of miles . Like I said Money generated in the wrong areas . not to say oil isn't inportant but I would rather walk then to run out of water.

For the members that live in California. Please post ideas and ways you are saving water.

This is what we have done so far.

1. Fake Grass in front yard.
2. Rock garden balance of yard with a few draught resistant shrubs and a lot of potted plants. Drip irrigation for shrubs and potted plants.
3. Ice plant on hill. Sprinkler for 5 minutes twice a week.
4. The old if it is yellow let it mellow potty rule. Sometimes the wife forgets, but years back we installed those pressure johns that use 1.6 gallons per flush.
5. Wife tries to save as much dishwater she can. Rinse water.

So our use is about 50 gallons for each of us a day.

Now we are looking at the following.

1. Save bath or shower water. I bought a cool rechargeable sump pump. So in our walk in shower we will block drain and then pump out the water to a 55 gallon drum just outside the bathroom window. Use this water with another more powerful sump pump to hand water the shrubs, potted plant and possibly the hill.
2. Also thinking of getting another 55 gal drum for the garage and see if I can direct some of the laundry water to it. A bit tricky but I think it is doable.

I think we already save a lot more than most, but always open to ideas.

Oh and we mickey mouse saved about 100 gallons during the recent rain.

Tom

Just take a look at residential and business landscaping in AZ and NM. It's actually great looking.
