So it isn’t proven yet.
It should be for the sake of the thread.
Since this thread is about showing others what it takes to get there and not post questions about it.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the 8-3/4 breaking but that is around the limit area for that rear and car weight. I’m glad to see you post it up for people to know. Tony (70AARcuda, IIRC) has done the same rear upgrade your doing on several of his cars with good results.

Best of luck!
Looking forward to updates!

We have made some runs on the new motor now and the best is 10.31 throgh the muffler with a pretty stiff head wind. The combination again is street/strip car driven to the track. Indy EZ heads prepared by Porter racing heads to Max Wedge size. Comp cams 646 lift 268/270 duration solid roller cam.Harlan Sharpe 1.5 rockers. Isky Red zone lifters. 440 Source 512 kit with light weight crank. Hughes girdle. Indy single plane manifold with AED 1050 Dominator 92/81 with 4.5 power valve in front 37 squirters. Carb sealed to hood. Ultimate 9.5 inch converter 4800 stall. 727 trans without transbrake or manual valentine body. Strange S60 with 4.10 gear and S track. The tires are M/T pro bracket radials 29.5x10.5x15. We are still tinkering g with it. I think we can drop a couple more tenths. Oh shifting 6200 and crossing at 6400.

I’m curious, what are you using for headers?

I’m curious, what are you using for headers?
They are Proparts 2 inch partial fenderwall headers from Bob Masellini. I believe he has them made by TTI.One tube on the passenger side goes through the fenderwall and two on the drivers side. I used a RobbMC starter clocked with the solenoid down. Very easy to change the starter and install the wires. DynaTech slit flow 3.5 inch mufflers

Update we are down to 10.20, but the 60ft Times are inconsistent. Try more front end travel and more preload on the Caltracs this week. Getting rid of some weight on the car. I want to keep it a street car so wiper etc stay.

Reading through some of these. I finally got my duster done after 6 year of working on it. It's a tube chassis 7.50 cert weighs 2710 with me in it(200lbs) 32x14.5 tire 4.56 dana60 4 link with anti roll bar and strut front end. All fiberglass beside body. 440 .030 over with promaxx heads opened up to max wedge ports and casting clean up. Indy intake with 4150 1000cfm demon.12.5 comp. 618 lift solid roller [email protected] stock steel crank new ly rods and trw forged domes all balanced. Car ran 9.98 at 132 and a 1.39 60 shifting at 6500 through the lights at 6800. With a 727 trans brake. I think it's got more in it but not sure I thought it would be faster

Finally have convertor matched well and 2-step working. It was in low 90s F and track prep was ok, but there weren’t a lot of people running. After blowing the tires off, then chattering them we put down a 10.66/125.86 with 1.46 60ft. Car with me weighs 3380 lbs. Shifting at 6800 and going through traps around 6,900. (Before convertor swap I went as high as 7,200 ... think we can do that with this set up and gain a bit more ). Launching at 3400 with trans brake. With new 2-way adjustbles we’re putting on and bit better conditions we should launch higher and post better numbers.

Set up:

Tires: rear > MT ET Street Radial Pro P275/60R15. Rear End: Dana 60, 4.56 gears, Rear Suspension: Cal Tracs (-1) mono leaf with Cal Trac shocks, Transmission: ATI PRO T400 TRANSMISSION, 383 bored/stroked to 431 CI (4.25 x 3.375 to 4.28 x 3.75) designed for PUMP GAS, internally & externally balanced, Heads: Trick Flow® PowerPort® 240, Camshaft: mechanical roller, Howards Cams - 721883-08. DURATION: 263/269 (in/ex) at 050/LIFT .675/.650, LSA 108 degrees, Pistons: Ross, H beam/Callies, Scat 4340 crank, Harland rocker arms, Pushrods: Smith Bros, Morel solid roller lifters Edelbrock Victor Intake Manifolds 2886, F.A.S.T XFI 2.0.

Made it through Drag Week last year - 1,013miles no problem except we burned up 4 alternators. That is solved. Best time last year was 10.95 at 129 with 1.86 60ft. So you see why we needed to change the convertor. And now fiberglass hood to shed some weight.

It’s a balance of NA on pump gas that can take a week of 1k miles reliably and put down a respectable number.

Been a blast to get back into racing. Doing it for the fun. And the cool people involved in it. I still can’t get over how fast the **** is now. Lol. 10s are nothing. We’ll keep trying to edge it down.

Update: we ran a 10.01 Wednesday night 1.382 60 ft times with a full tank of gas and a significant head wind, through the mufflers. We were at 10.16 best the last couple trips to the track and I installed a 1 inch blend spacer. The spacer is the only thing I changed. On the first pass which is almost always the slowest it ran a 10.06. That is a tens better than is has ever run with no muffler on a Cool morning. It sure seems to like that spacer. I removed a 3/8 four hole, so maybe it didn’t like that one.
