See my pics back a page or so…. I have the TKX…It’s a bench seat car. Bench has to pretty much stay all the way back…it’s right up on it. But I have zero issues with it. I do need to modify my hump though cause the seat frame sits right on it even with the bench lifted some. Easy fix… I’m just being lazy.Anyone swap one of these ODs in and keep the bench seat?
Another possibility... And if you can weld you could certainly do this without buying anything...See my pics back a page or so…. I have the TKX…It’s a bench seat car. You can also rotate the shift plate on top of the transmission. The thing that says Tremec on it with the 6 bolts. Mine is to the back…see my pics…. the pic you show has it to the front. If I had turned mine around it would have given more room away from the bench… but I assumed that the vendor had it where it belonged for my application. I will say that it being closer to the bench looks more stock and is much more comfortable on the arm and hand.Another possibility... Looking stock the rear position is probably the call... As far as hand position, bending the shift lever you can put it where you want....You can also rotate the shift plate on top of the transmission. The thing that says Tremec on it with the 6 bolts. Yeah I had to look up factory photos cause it looked too close to me….and odd….But it’s stock looking and I like it now. At first I thought the vendor didn’t put the shift plate in the right direction, but they did.Looking stock the rear position is probably the call... Yeah, bending takes some brute force, but I have access to plenty... And sometimes the chrome gets damaged but usually it's okay... How many bent bumpers have you seen with good chrome....Yeah I had to look up factory photos cause it looked too close to me….and odd….But it’s stock looking and I like it now. Bending the shift lever would be both extremely difficult without hydraulic help and would, I’m sure, ruin the chrome platting.
The T56 is $3545+ now.Yeah I think the transmission is only like 3200 for the T56 but it’s all the little things that add up. 1200 bell housing, 800 for hydraulic clutch system, 400 pedals, 400 flywheel, 400 clutch and so on.
The only thing I’ll take off of the quote as of now is the cross member because I ordered a ToddRon cross member from modern driveline already. They had 3 or 4 is stock at the moment. I debated ordering another but my wife is going to kill me. 8k transmission, brake system (again), 15-20k to redo my shop, starting next week.
I have some A body pedals annd also have a sweet e-body pistol shifter but it only shows 4 gears on the top of it. But I’m not using them, the shifter would be cool to use though.

The entire swap kit, minus the cross member was 7700 shipped. I got the close ratio gear set as well since that’s what many people recommended. The T56 is $3545+ now.
Yeah its spendy aint cheap and add another $500 for drive shaft. But wait till you drive it. Worth every dollar. The entire swap kit, minus the cross member was 7700 shipped. I got the close ratio gear set as well since that’s what many people recommended.

Can't be done with ToddRon cross member but it might be possible to modify the upper hoop to clear the shift handle.Pretty sure the shifter on a T56 is designed to be installed towards the front or towards the back.
Regardless, I know my shifter can't be flipped to the forward location.

Based on this picture, I would say that it can't be done with the ToddRon crossmember either.

Maybe the TKX can be flipped to make it work, but I doubt it would clear the crossmember any better.
That leaves people with no upper crossmember that might be able to employ flipping the shifter to make a bench seat fit. Not saying a bench seat can't be made to work, only that if there is an upper crossmember, I doubt the idea of flipping the shifter would work.
There is an access plate forward of the shifter that (I think) I have seen shifters built to use. That would make all kinds of room available for a bench.

E body shifter location...

I wonder how close this would be? GM A body....I think it would be cool if they did an A-Body setup like the E-Body.
Anyone know where this would come through the floor?I wonder how close this would be? GM A body....

Looks like it would be in factory 4 spd location. But upper cross member hoop would have to go around it somehow.I wonder how close this would be? GM A body....

I asked Silver Sport about an A Body specific shifter location. They said no they only do E Body specific....I think it would be cool if they did an A-Body setup like the E-Body.
I would agree.Post 68 shows cli55er's TKX install... Looks like the rearward shifter location might be best....
I was originally thinking this, as the GM offset shifter has it in the forward location, closer to the transmission mount on the trans.Looks like it would be in factory 4 spd location. But upper cross member hoop would have to go around it somehow.
Mine is a TKO but it's Ford format cause that's what Kiesler used way back in the day.... Silver Sport sells a bell housing that has the TKO/TKX pattern so you don't have to modify a original bell housing... And they too chose the Ford pattern, I'm guessing due to the input shaft length...So when buying a .68 OD TKX for an a-body are yous guys getting the Ford or GM variant?
And why?
