What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
Today I plan on cleaning up the car and taking her to Mike Linnings for the kick off of the Street Machine National in Louisville, Ky

Then tomorrow will go get my entry packet at Papa Johns Stadium

The rest of the week will be at the Ky fairgrounds checking out the 11,000 cars & trucks that show up.

Latest done,on the Scamp. Made a rear package tray, upholstered & mounted 6" x 9"'s. Cut the needed back seat firewall, mandatory for a trunk mounted battery (still smoothing the edges and burrs...).

Nothing, worked all day on a 51' Chevy Business coupe, that a friend is building into a 60's Gasser. Jacked up, straight front axle, built dual quad 409, with a 4 speed. Ought to be killer. Always wanted a 53 Chevy like that(Thanks to Revell models circa 1975).
But all the extra money will be going to my Mopar Addiction. Might build a gasser some day myself out of a Valiant or late 40s Plymouth Coupe.

What did you use for the package tray? more details, please....gonna do the same for mine soon.

Today same as the last Year or so.

Looking for '67 B/cuda pristine Grills (complete) and Headlamp 'doors'.

Does this count as action?

More sanding, then spraying more surfacer....... Weather is good for it here, maybe hit 80*... Not too hot to work in the garage. Put some more paint on the drivers door. Other than that, not much.

installed sub frame ties
finished moving the rear springs in and forward
made new spring boxes, install the rear sliders

figured out how to remove the dash
with-out removing the windshield and trim.
replacing it with a fiberglass dash

needed it out of the way to make it easier to section the trans tunnel,
to make room for the trans shield

.

Working to install interior back into Scamp. Things are tight around roll bar. Going to put aluminum panels in before the seats and package tray goes in just in case I install a fuel cell later on. Painfully slow work. Figuring out the brake lines from master to the block. The headers are close and I don't want to boil the brake fluid. :finga:

Finished work early & arced up the Dart headed down the servo to put some 98 premium fuel @ $1.59 litre was cheap today as its usually hovering around the $1.70-$1.76 L. My new eddy 650 has arrived from summit today and i will be playing with that tomorrow. Finally spring weather is comming and the days are looking good with plenty of sunshine meaning more driving time with the Iron horse!

I plan to remove the Dual 750 AVS carbs from my 6-71 Blown 340 '73 Duster and replace em with a pair of 850 Thermoquads

What's that sound? Is it 2 thermohogs sucking air through the air filters at WOT? Nope that's the sound of my wallet screaming as the gas tank goes from full to empty in the blink of an eye. Lol.

I blew my 4.56 rearend to smithereens last night so I will be tearing that down this weekend, or sooner and trying to line up some parts. Something let loose and the driveshaft shifted forward and sounded like a giant metal-eating machine. I am sure it looks pretty bad inside! Puked all the gear oil out through the front seal.
I would like to find a complete 8 3/4 center section setup with either 3.91 or 3.73 gears in time to still get some Fall cruising in.

Took the Polara for a cruise after work this morning and came to the conclusion that 245/60/14's might be too big for a front tire, maybe.

Replaced a defective reman P/S pump from Napa, and swapped out the 2.76s for a 4.10 pumpkin to see how it works with the new motor and converter. Hopefully driving it today more than a mile and the P/S stays working this time.

Beware of sprag failure. Read that if you blew the rear end trans should come apart to check internals.

It didn't come apart under a load so should be no worries there. In fact, after pulling the center section out, it was much less damaged than it sounded like.
Pinion nut came loose and the massive noise was the pinion gear grinding on the casing of the suregrip unit. Luckily, I didn't drive it much or make it worse.

Got new gear and bearings & stuff from Dr. Diff and am ready to hopefully get that all back together.
Decided to go with 3.73 gears to make it more street-friendly. Eager to see how it feels!
