What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
So how did you do? All the world wonders. . . .
I didn't set the world on fire! Best of 13.33@103.09. I did learn the limited of my traction as it was then, so I have some things to work on with tire pressure etc. I was amazed that the addition of a pinion snubber 1/2" off the floor made no positive benefit to my 60' time. Still about 2.01.

Cars & coffee & donuts at Kent & Linda's house before we all rolled out (I believe we had 20 cars) to the Easy Rodder's show at the Packard Proving Grounds (Shelby Township, MI). What a great day!!!

Discovered why the horn(s) button wasn't working on my Grant steering wheel. Two of the three mounting bolts had loosened up preventing the foil ring to make contact. Snugged them all up, popped the center cap back on and the horn(s) work perfectly again. I love being retired and having the time to take care of these little jobs.

Not today, but over the weekend, but it’s not finished, so I’ll be back at it. I couldn’t get the Speed-O-Meter to work, I bypassed the Alt gauge, no oil pressure, and C to H isn’t a very accurate temperature measurement, plus I wanted a Tach. Since Auto Meter had a rebate program going that ended in June & I was lucky enough to notice just before that ended, I went ahead and splurged for a full matching set. I hadn’t anticipated quite how many wires I would be dealing with. I used a Dymo Rhino label maker to keep track. I really didn’t need to keep track of 12v, light, & ground, every gauge gets those, but it might help troubleshooting if needed, but all the signal wires are purple & gray, so I had to keep track of those.
I also have left, right, high beam & brake warning to add in there.
I’m making connections with molex connectors I ordered, then I’ll wrap it all with harness tape.
Edit: I did this on my phone & I just zoomed in & noticed all the reflections on the gauge face, that’s my brick garage wall.

All loaded up for the track again! Going for 2 days. Test & Tune Friday and try my hand at the Sportsman class on Saturday. Never done it before, so wish me luck!

Great job with the labels!

Took a bit of a break from my 67 Barracuda to work on my 04 Ram's A/C. Never done any A/C work before, but I finally got that done.

Also put new shocks on the front of my 63 Valiant convertible and have been cleaning it up a bit underneath.

Got the new cam in my 67 Barracuda couple weeks ago (#12,421). It was just sitting in the motor, nothing else hooked up.

Yesterday, I worked to put my new timing chain set on. Had a crank socket that was slotted to fit over the crank key to turn the crank to line up the dots. Well, the socket got stuck on the crank. I pried, hammered and cussed but it wouldn't budge, so I left it alone overnight, 'cause getting angry is a good way to tear something up. Today, I got the bright idea to heat the socket with a propane torch to hopefully expand it a bit. That worked. So, with a bit of maneuvering, I got the timing set on, dots lined up. Even could use the crank socket after I oiled it first, and put it on only just far enough to engage the crank key.

So now I'm ready to degree the cam. When I've done it before, I had the heads off. They are still on this motor. I realized, belatedly, that I don't have a real good way to accurately establish TDC of the #1 piston. SO - I ordered a top dead center stop from Amazon. They have a huge new warehouse only a couple of miles from my house, so these days I can order something one day and most of the time I'll get it the next day. It will be here tomorrow. Easier and at least as quick as trying to make my own tool.

I have managed to accumulate lots of tools over the many years I've been alive, but somehow I'm always still one short whenever I start something new.

Painting other small parts, in addition to the wheels painted earlier, leading up to painting the car itself happening soon.....

The midnight blue pearl looks black in the shadow or if indirectly viewed, but you can see the blue better in the sun:

I bought some rustolium...thought it was black....painted a couple of wheels
Put it next to the "black" wheels it was ink
Sad cause I like the ink better but couldn't find more so had to repaint the others

Up on jack stands, drained tank and stopped, tomorrow one step at a time drilling and rubber sleeves install areas, and looks like 12 3/8th inch fuel like strap location, threw inner fender near fuel pump, up and back down inner pich weld. That will cool down my fuel line because I will use the arigenal fuel line for a return line using a 90es jeep fuel filter wth a separator to keep fuel cooler, mounted up next to the carburetor witch will be a AVS 1979 to 71 440 dodge/Plymouth. It's sonic cleaned and rebuilt by yours truly

If you guys ever need to remove the white lettering from your tires or drag slicks, Citristrip and a brass brush works like a Champ. Took me about 30min to do both tires.

I'm in the 12s!!!!!!!!! 12 second street car baby!!!!!!!!
Even though I lost! Please ignore my reaction time! It was my first round of eliminations ever, and my nerves got to me!
My buddy's sweet Polara parked at my pit just to class things up a bit!

I see your excitement and send my congratulations to you!! That is a terrific payoff for your hard work.

All of us racers chase the RT monster - some runs are better than others and, at least in my case, I can't always understand why I have a random AWFUL reaction time (usually on the red side)! But they will all keep you coming back chasing perfection and one day it will all come together for you. Congratulations!!
