For years a fellow from my local dragstrip has mentioned that he has "an indy mopar motor" under the bench. This would happen at the track and by the end of the weekend I'd have completely forgotten about it. I heard he was looking to talk to me about it through a friend and here we are with a mystery "indy motor" ready to get torn down, fate unknown.

I yanked the dist and was greeted with this lol

What we know:

-It's based on a 72 440 block and it looks like someone bought the Indy EZ -1 top end kit.

-EZ -1 heads use standard rocker gear. My GTS has stamdard rocker gear. Hmm...

MoPars purple cams are pretty good. While not taxing and hard core race cams, they do get the job done. I’d mic the lift at the rocker to see what you have in there. Adjust one rocker to zero lash for the test or add the lash in later.

If, for say, it’s a .590 cam, it is listed in the speed tips section for use in the 10 second bracket range. The vehicle weight and such being a big determining factor of course.

That EZ head is pretty good. Though I’d look into a good stiff rocker arm and check the valve spring pressures after sitting for a while.

I wonder if that's the .620 cam ?
Ez-1 is max wedge, with stock height exhaust flange?
 
i'm getting notes of patchouli, Lynyrd Skynyrd and patch pockets on bellbottoms with a waft of dime bag weed.

gotta love those 70's style builds!

I didn't ever get an opportunity to run a .509
The parts guy at the Dodge dealership I worked at basically told me I was a dumbass and pick another cam. I said after a couple days .474
He said that's too much for your 400 engine with a stock converter but it will work & it did but wasn't optimal
I never made enough money to do anything real cool with that car after buying the cragar version of drag lites and doing body work and painting it but it was the best 73 charger se I've seen yet.

The **** job I worked was the parts counter at pep boys! So I got my **** tires at a shitty discount!!

Those notes are fresh, you're probably smelling it in the air in California lol
the patchouli stink never went away, now the weed is just more pronounced because it's so much more dank. lol!
