Your favorite road trip car ?

-
This is the car that we actually built for long distance road trips. The last two summers we did a total of 13,600 miles mostly on 2 lane blacktop in 2 month and a half long trips. Mildly built 318 with an RH42 4 speed overdrive automatic.

My wife's selection of Plum Crazy was perfect and the car was like a conversation magnet. We must have talked to hundreds of folks in small towns all across the country because they just walked up to look at the car.
Never did see a YT video on your last trip

In 73,4 and 5 I was in the Air Force stationed in New Hampshire. The 13 hour drive to get home on leave was easy in my 67 Newport. First car I ever had with cruise control. I had to really work at staying awake coming across I80

Not a "car", sorry, but without a doubt:

My father had one just like it Back in The Day, and as a kid I used to spend hours and hours laying on my belly, in the top bed of the camper, looking out of that front window as the miles went by....

And one of the main reasons I have these:

By far my favorite road trip vehicle of all time (2 people max) is my 74 Duster. 360 Magnum, A500 overdrive auto, AC, cruise control, seats out of a 2013 Chrysler 300S. It currently has 4.30 gears, so she sings about 2600 RPM @ 70mph. I plan on a couple multi day road trips with it this summer. I drive it whenever I can.

Nice! I love the old bump sides.

Mine definitely doesn’t see any road trip duty but it does plow my driveway

Nice '69 Highboy! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I think I've asked you this before, but if you happen to have a spare/good '68-69 grille, or know where one can be found, please reach out to me! I'd really like to find one in better shape than the one I have.

The '67? Not so much, as I may (MAY) sell that one this spring.

I really like my lezbo car 'subaru' for road trips. Great milage, quiet, the cvt on the hwy just rockets me past other cars like nothing and it'll cruise at 100mph easy.

If we're talking mopars... my old 71 dart swinger was a solid road car with its built 225 and long tube headers.
The lezbo car!

So true. Do you wear Birkenstocks when you drive that thing?

Nah.. but I've gotten a lot of roadhead driving it. I hit the date sights... and took those broads out to the casinos...a lil gambling.. some drinks... then i just whipped it out.. long road home and pulling over for water for them.
Some ladies made the lezbo jk about the car.. but in the end they were liking how smooth a ride it was. Haha

The 71 swinger was a fav too..
Bench seat was perfect.

I wish!

It’s actually a ‘71 F100 with a 4” lift wearing a ‘69 grille I got super lucky on and pulled out of a local pickNpull. I see they repop the ‘69 grilles now but they are definitely a bit spendy.

My favorite road-trip car is my 2012 Chrysler 300 C.

It rides like it’s on a cloud but has responsive handling when you need it. 365 hp 5.7l Hemi VVT and MDS gets 30+ mpg with solid braking making it an all around well balanced road-trip machine.

Seats five adults comfortably and has a large trunk with fold-down rear seats. Steering wheel heater plus front and rear heated leather seats makes Winter driving quite comfortable.

The front seats have cooling for Summer and the heated/cooled cup holders just add to the comfort.

I love this car!

You got that right!!! And the quality isn’t as good as OEM based on what I’ve read….

Nice move putting that ‘69 grille on there, in my opinion, as I never cared for the look of the plastic, “split grilles” of the ‘70 and up trucks.

Nice truck!

The answer is, it depends. Where I'm going, how much I want to take with me, etc. As far as road manners, probably the '64 300K. Handling, the 2000 Miata or the '04 330ci convertible with sport suspension. Pure fun, my son's '67 440/4sp GT convertible. Pure comfort...(see pic).

Best road trip car was my dad's 71 Chrysler 300 4 door hard top. I could lounge in that massive back seat while we were hammering down the highway.
Favorite of my own cars would probably be my 95 Integra. It was terrific little car that was huge fun to drive. As for comfort our 18 Compass Trailhawk was surprisingly good. Excellent front seats.

My 76 Charger SE and 75 Cordoba I had next (first 2 cars when I got my license) were hard to beat as long as you werent the one in the back seat.

100% down 0% interest.
Thank goodness..!..
I'd have to trade my trans am in for the ten k down, and then i've already calculated yesterday for last year's model, I'd pay a thousand dollars a month for a hundred months....
This situation is kind of forcing me to make some hard decisions about my ninety eight dodge truck... it's only got a hundred and fifty thousand miles on it, and it's been a northwest truck, so you could literally still clean and wax the frame in the bottom of the truck. There's no rust whatsoever...
The drivetrain is rock solid..
The seats are in great condition, but the rest of the interior is gone...
I convinced myself for one brand new truck payment I could have a brand new interior in my truck.. about 4 days ago I ordered brand new carpet, a brand new dashboard, new cup holder, and new gage bezel...
Stay tuned...

A few years ago I realized I couldn't have a new dodge truck, so I built the old dodge truck, but now it's too nice... lol...
I think all of our vehicles turn into favorite road trip, cars or trucks... of course, the 98 Dodge we use for snowbilling, so we take it on lots of trips and it's very comfortable.
And you can sit up and see everything...
My wife's Kia, that's great for going cross-country. We can put the seats down in the back. And the dogs are comfortable, it gets great gas mileage, and it's a Turbo. It goes up-and-down hills a lot real easy going across country..
The six speed t top transam needn any explanation...
And of course, we love taking the seventy four power wagon up and down the coast...

Being an Ironworker had its advantages. I made great money, and I wasn't on drugs or do I drink. I spend it on Vehicles. This truck I have was demo and I beat them up on the price. My Jeep that I traded in was paid for too. So, it wasn't much cash that I had to bring in. If it treats me well, I'll keep it. If it causes my ***-ache, it's out of here...Then, I'll do the same as you, find an older decent truck and make it better.

We had this one from 2007-2016 and took it on several vacations to the beach, was a good riding car for a small car and lots of fun in the sun with the top down (decent trunk space with the top up).

By far my best trip and everyday vehicle was my 2022 Silverado High Country 1500 3.0L diesel ("baby Duramax") pickup. 30-32 mpg's on the highway, 27-28 around town. Instantaneous torque and every creature comfort known to man. We drove that to/from Detroit to Florida so many times while we were searching for land then having our house built that I lost count. Probably 15 trips over a couple of years. You could drive 14 hours and not be the least bit tired. Loved that truck, especially since it was my company vehicle!

My mom's sister, her husband my uncle had a brother who who's a little older than me just out of high school and he got me my first construction job and went on to be an iron worker shortly after that... i see you mentioned drugs right away because that's where he fell. He was like third on the iron workers list,....He was making sixty ninety thousand dollars in just a couple months, it was crazy... that fool p***** all that away to live in his head... He's in his sixties, and I think he delivers pizzas or something....

I know plenty of guys who just can't stay clean!! Then they ***** about money and ask how I own so much stuff! Idiots!!

Gonna take this is a little different direction. My favorite road trip vehicle is my 1956 Austin Healey 100. Sure, it lacks pretty much every creature comfort- manual everything, no AC, no roll up windows, no roof, no cupholders! Not much trunk space either, so, one suitcase and it had better be small. Prepped for vintage racing, so, lower ride height and stiffer springs all around, it lets you know about every inch of pavement it covers.

But drive 1,000 miles, run some AutoX laps, and drive 1,000 miles home? Sure thing. Drive from northern California to SoCal and rip up and down all the canyon roads? Yup. Drive in the rain? Sure, just keep it over 60 so the rain goes over the windscreen instead of into the cabin.

Somewhere out on I5 (maybe 97?) near Mt. Shasta

Id rather be on the road in something sporty myself. LOL!

My best road car was a black '77 Mercury Cougar .. The thing had the 400 engine and was a great car. Had only 33k on it back in 89/90's when we used it to go from NY to FL. several times. On one of its last trips with it, we left Disney World around 7 PM, after being there all day. With the car already loaded, we started back to NY right away. While my 9 yr. old daughter, in her PJ's, slept in the back, my wife tilted her seat back and slept all night. I drove until 5 AM, then slept for about two hours, and got back to it. I don't think any cars passed us all night, as that thing just buzzed at 80/85 all night. It looked just like this one.
