I just finished my post - engine replacement cleanup of Dusty yesterday afternoon. Full underbody cleaning (three bottles of engine degreaser), wash and wax everything and she looks like a million bucks. Got the new motor dialed in, all fluid leaks eliminated and it was time to get her out on the road. I rarely drive in the Minnesota winter due to all the salt we put down, but the highway was completely bare this morning. My thermometer said -16 degrees, with a windchill of -29. Yet Dusty loves the cold, thick winter air up here and she was telling me she wanted to drive. And drive we did.
The new Dart engine came right up to temperature and stayed there the entire time with its new stock 195 degree thermostat. Was out there for an hour and didn't kill a single bug on my windshield. It's just too damn cold for a single insect to survive in this climate in the winter. Passed a dead Tesla on the side of the road - probably batteried out by running his heater. How ironic that my fifty two year old gasoline burning Plymouth with a six cylinder engine designed in the mid-1950s was zooming past him.
This is the beauty of our hobby; seeing a superb piece of Chrysler engineering doing exactly what it was designed to do and running flawlessly and reliably even in the coldest winter weather. That's all for now. Be well, all!

Took the Roadrunner to the super market last week. Was about 13 degrees out! I like the looks I get. Like 'that's a summer. car'. Drive em.
 
He's right though. We did the same here in New England. Always had a summer car and a winter beater. Had the insurance agent swap plates seasonally. And sorry mine was a 66 Barracuda/6. Three on the tree. That car would drive up a building. No throttle and let off the clutch.
 
My first car , 66 Barracuda 4 spd. Worst traction I’ve ever had. Drove it 1 winter. Still have it since 75

As weird as this may sound to a lot of you, this actually makes a lot of sense. Too could for snow (usually), no bugs, and best of all- no chance of road salt getting into the nooks and crannies of a car ‘cuz it stops melting at something like +10* F.

Back when I had my ‘69 Mustangs I used to do exactly what Bob just did- crank ‘em up on some of the really cold days, and if the roads are clean, take ‘em out and let ‘em stretch their legs.

I had my show pony 71 Demon in a strip mall parking lot yesterday while I was in a store. Well ok, ok...my wife sat in the car to watch it! And I am in Florida so I guess i don't get much credit for driving it there...
 
as for your location... it's like the rain here in Western Washington. It is SOOOO gorgeous there during the other half on the year, it makes the rest of it worth living through.
 
Can some of you Yanks send a couple of snow plows to us in S Texas. We have NONE! They are calling for some freezing rain and 2-5 inches of snow!!! But 1200 out of state emergency linemen are here or on the way!!!! I bet they will work form Tx. to Ga. maybe!!

pressure your city / county to underground the power. Yes its a pain , Yes it costs money BUT your power grid will be rock solid. Here in Fort Collins we have >90% underground. in 18 years here the power has been out 1 time.
Lived in Anaheim and they undertook the undergrounding process ( fully built out city of 330,000 people) lived there for 20 years, same 1 maybe 2 times the power went out

We live out in the sticks but N of Houston. Houston is 3rd or 4 th largest US city and run by left wing idiots., Maybe the new mayor will be better, could not be any worse. They can not afford to fix a busted water main much less do under ground electric! The city is broke, the rest of Texas has huge surpluses. Houston gives $500/mo. to poor residents of the downtown county, on top of all other welfare and aide.
Texas utilities called in all these out of state linemen as it was unclear how much ice could come. Could be BAD.
Last early summer, Beryl, a little 1 hurricane, caused massive power outages in Houston, as it run right up the middle of the city with a lot of wind, and the utilities had not kept tree hazards in line.
Tue AM, ice but not bad, and 2-5 inches of snow, not bad.
Houston was even smart enough to stay off the roads and not knock down power lines!!
But it is headed to La. with "blizzard warnings"! Really!
