Hello everyone my names angelo I am 20yrs old still livn at home , i live on longisland in a town called portwashington , getting pretty sick of it , born and rasied and my parents (townie) i hate the cold now , and prices of homes and land here are crazy , no race tracks ,the land sucks i cant even pee in my backyard with out my naighbor seeing my c0&K , if your not a well worty millionair your not getting more then a half acure of land into (dirtbikes) motocross and of course my mopars so i need a big shop and looking to build a 8thmile or even 1/4 mile track on my own property , looking to relocate and start out on my own some where in SouthCarolina im looking for a town where i can find around 10acres of land or more and a decent town i dont care if its a big city , i got sick of seeing so many people , please help me.

Some things I noticed about the South East (I'm from the Portland Oregon area but the wife's family lives back there).

1. Snakes and spiders. The ones we have are harmless. The ones they have are mean.

2. They hunt from tree stands on leased land. We walk in the woods on public land.

3. Their deer are the size of the dogs around here.

4. Elk hunting…… They don't have it.

5. Their humidity + heat sucks the life out of me.


Not saying one is better than the other but they are very different.
 
My advice is to get a job lined up first.
Then move there and start small. Get established in your new area and then work on your dreams.
They will come in time if you never lose sight of them.
Go to school and get a trade or some other post secondary education, it opens a lot of doors and you will have something to fall back on.
Money comes in time in conjunction with hard work.
Maybe in 10 to 20 years you will realize your dreams.
Work HARD and anything is possible.
Keep your eyes on the prize and never lose focus.
My 2 cents.

yeh im prett skilled fro 20 yrs old, im a welder , was heavy driver ( BIG wrecker tow truck) ,was a machinest for about 4years milling heads and blocks , now im a engineer at a hospital northshore LIJ , but it sucks here and im trying to get about 50,000 saved up for a house down there.. its overpriced life moves way too fast here , you cant have anyfun , even 4th of july sucks ppl call the dam cops for fireworks

I do feel you pain as far as housing costs in Washington state go.

They are stupid. 1400sqft homes in the Seattle area are like what……… 350-400k?

And the lots are so small you can pee out your bathroom window and hit the house next door.

Just curious, why South Carolina in particular?

A couple things come to mind, one thing, stay above the 'gnat line,' that's basically the part of the state that was once underwater, that includes Columbia...there's no place hotter in the summer, just ask anyone who's lived there lol.

Also, don't forget about culture shock. A lot of people in this part of the country, to put it bluntly, are ignorant and proud of it. Here's a funny story: I went with a friend to spend Thanksgiving with his family just outside of Columbia. Thanksgiving morning, we took his sister and brother-in law and niece out to Waffle House for breakfast. The waitress also happened to be the niece's daughter's teacher. So when the bill came, it was just under $50. My friend paid the cashier with 3 20's and put the change on the table. His brother-in-law started raising hell about the tip "You may live a ROCK STAR LIFESTYLE in Atlanta but we don't live that way here!!!" Really, is tipping 20% at a Waffle House...on Thanksgiving...when you know the waitress...that big a deal? We still laugh about the 'rockstar lifestyle' comment!
 
i think our house is mabe 1500sq feet , house run about 450xxx - to 800xxx and ONN--- my parents i think pay 15,000$ in taxes a year, my dad has been busting his *** since im born we have a nice house in a beautful town , but its not worth it at all, there is notting to do , and what we want to do , we cant, i get the cops called ever time the duster starts , and he hates the cold now and so do i , it sucks here , i can never afford a home here with out making 80,000 a year and wont have it paid off till i die FVCK THAT ?|!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can move to sc finda somthing with 3000sqfeet live in the warm and have 15 acers of land , then i rather bust my hole to make money bc i reallyy have somthingggg and a garage bigger then my houseeeeeeeeeeFINLLYY my dream
 
hahaha goldfish thats great breakfast for LIKE 3 up here is about lik 80bucks omg 50 i wish , SC idk i guess im a hillbilly rasied in the roung place , plus the flag on my truck would fit in rather then NY hahaha !! it seem good down there i have a friend in georgia he lives 10 from summit racing warehouse LOVESSSS It, i just need to get out of heree
 

I'm going to keep this simple, partly because I'm not familiar with where you are or where you think you want to go, but DO SOME research

You think prices/ property is high where you are?

MIGHT be a reason why they are lower where you are looking---wages, the economy isn't what it might be. In other words, it MAY all work out to a ratio--cheaper prices and land = lower wages.

Check carefully before you pull up stakes and burn bridges.

Don't get me wrong, my Pop grew up in New York, he moved here to Georgia years ago and fits in great, he likes living in the mountains doing electrical and plumbing work. It's beautiful here and the climate and the economy is better. Depending on where you go, though, some of the people aren't the most broad-minded.

Nice-looking truck, definately would help you fit in!
 
i under stand about lower wages and everthing but what im basically saying is 500grand for a house you have less then a 1500 sq feet for is BULLSJT , if im gonna bust my hole to work i want land and a nice house and shop and i wanna build my 1/4mile track on i dont care what it takes and im saving up money now , i hate the cold also ,, its not just about cost , i dont think you can even find a house with 10 acers on it , on longisland


plus im not gonna burn bridges all my family is here ( huge italian family ) AND FRIENDS i will be the first one almost in my family to move out of town and try somthing new so i will always have a spot that is known to be home
 
Dude, your 20yo. Do some research, dont be narrow minded about only the carolinas. I'm in ct and yeah it sucks living amongst the yuppies and their spawn, but, this is where the money is, even in bad times, and yes its a visious circle. Alls I'm saying is I think going is a good idea and your the right age, no wife no kids, just have a plan.
 
your 20 years old. if you don't have anything holding ya in NY like kids or a wife then now is the time to go and do it. probably will be no better time to do it. all things are relative. make more here and pay more for most things, make less there pay less for things there. property and property tax may not be bad there but they will get their money one way or another. i say go for it man. if ya don't like it there your young enough to go find a different place..

Think of two things, 1, where else are you going to get paid to fight:boxing:, drink:drinkers:, get tattoos :poke:and get with woman:lovestor:, 2, see the world for free:happy1:! Hell join any branch, you'll love it and at every base they have an auto shop where you can work on your cars for free and use all the real shop tools, plus store your ride there! I miss it, damn knees and shoulder! You would love it! I know I did when I was your age!
 
I lived outside Charleston on the Isle of Palms for 3 years and loved it. Met a lady in Denver and moved, sometimes I regret it. I absolutely loved SC, everyone I met was very nice and very polite. The food was beyond exceptional and I love my seafood. I bought a little 17' boat and soon discovered the fishing was great, especially enjoyed bait net season (shrimping). We were allowed to cast net one 48 quart cooler full per day and often got our limit in less then an hour. Their license plates say it best "Beautiful places, smiling faces"

You're gonna need more than 10 acres for a drag strip. The old Warner Robins drag strip is still there and for sale in Warner Robins, Georgia. Go buy that. You could make your money back 10 fold.
 
I know exactly how you feel. Im in huntington, luckily the neighbors don't call the cops on me. I guess thats the one benefit about not living in too great of a neighborhood. I can't wait to get out of college and bail on this place, ill NEVER miss it. Well maybe the pizza and bagels. but thats it!!
 
I moved to Greenville, SC from NW Pennsylvania a little over 12 years ago and love it here. Lots to do, decent cost of living, and there's an 8th mile track about 15 minutes from my house. BMW just added a massive expansion and is hiring at $15/hour to start. Not a ton of money but you could live on it easily down here.
 
Move to Starke, Fl. Gainesville Drag just 10 miles away, land and housing cheap. And even if you have to drive to Jacksonville for work; 45 minutes. Or call Dan Dvorack Racing in Waldo; he is pissed at his mechanist help.
 
Forgot to add:

cockroaches as big as a small mouse
armadillos tearing up the yard
dam possums
squirrels (live trapped 53 in 2 months off my 1 acre years ago)
No copperheads, only 6' long rattlesnakes, and cotton mouths as thick as your fore-arm. some coral snakes, but basically down south.

Freeze for 2 months, die from the heat and humidity for 3 months. Rest of the year is nice, makes the dam grass grow= riding mower. And the bushes grow- kill them.
Did I say it goes to 105 degrees with 90 % humidity?
And it has been known to snow, here in North Fl. Global warming, my butt.
Moved from Maryland to here in 1967; better here.
