hey guys i am ready to pull my 383 with 4 speed out of my 68 barracuda. I want to know if the engine will clear the steering shaft with the factory exhaust manifolds and the starter left on the engine? thanks
Why not just pull K frame and all right out the bottom, if it will clear.
Yes i have both manifolds hanging on the studs. I wanted to leave the steering shaft connected and i will be pulling it alone. i am hoping it will clear with no snags. thanks

to wait to put the valve covers on until you're clear of the shock
towers.
This means that the engine, trans and headers are all together
going in or out. you just drain the fluids, disconnect the steering
coupler and pull the steering shaft up from inside the car. Usually
take a bungee cord and loop through the steering wheel and hook
to the driver's seat headrest.
With the front of the body on jackstands and the rear wheels on ramps
for height to clear the rear bumper when the car is tilted up, hook a cherry
picker to the engine/trans/K-frame assembly.
Radiator out, pop the lower ball joints loose, slide the torsion bars
out and unbolt the driveshaft, trans crossmember and K-frame bolts.
Now, lower the engine/trans/K-frame assembly onto a rollable cart.
Hook the cherry picker onto the front of the body (bumper bolt points
work) and lift the body up so you can roll the engine etc assembly away.
You you make a dedicated cart and also a "tricycle wheel" assembly to
bolt in place of the removed K-frame, then you can just roll the car away.
It doesn't seem to hardly weigh anything once the powertrain is removed.

Darren, what are your plans? Resto or just a rebuild. I'm working on my big block GTS and found that having a tumbler comes in hand in cleansing all those small parts such as bolts, washers, nuts, fittings etc.
