I went on Facebook market place this morning and stumbled onto this trans. It was listed as a mopar 833 4 speed for $700 in Nazareth Pa. I looked at the picture and noticed the large bearing cover. Blew it up and counted the splines. I contacted the seller and offered him $500 as is. He accepted and I bought it.

Facebook is unbelievable for deals if you get there first. But more times nobody ever responds. I always leave my number and mention CASH$$$

You are lucky in that you have a denser population base, so far as used parts. N end if Idaho, bleeding over into MT and WA, things are sparse, and there are MANY of the "I know what I got" (and overpriced) mentality. Around here you are more likely to find an over priced box advertised as a 4 speed, and it turns out to be a worn out aluminum case OD box, out of a Van or pickup.

My favorite things to make fun of are old clapped out motorhomes for sale, that "you can sell the parts and make money." Hell I'd need 20 acres to do all that. One guy around here on CL had a motorhome torn down for at least FOUR YEARS on there trying to sell stuff. And since some are 440's of COURSE they are "gold"

when i was in mt i saw a sweptline for sale ...almost stopped ..but it was a 2000 mile tow it was the only one i've seen for sale in the wild

It's the difference between knowing what your looking at vs not knowing what you have. 65

Pre Internet, I found a guy that had an all aluminum, 18 spline, A body four speed. He wanted $400. I didn't have $400.

I sure wish I'd robbed a quickie mart and gotten $400.

Nice score. What's a Hemi trans bring these days?

Good 18-spline 4-speeds go for anywhere between $800-$2000....unless somebody is looking for a "numbers" piece for a numbers matching car.

Those 18 spline units were also used in ALL 440-4-speed applications as well.....

Back in '75, my 68 GTX 440-4bbl had the 18 spline...so did my '70 GTX 440-4bbl and my 69 Coronet R/T 440-4bbl....they all had the 18 spline boxes and Dana 60 rear ends.

No...the 18 spline boxes were standard equipment for all 440-4bbl cars along with the Dana rear ends.
Disagree, I bought a 72 New Yorker for the driveline, though automatic, 8-3/4 rear.
What I`ve gathered from the years reading this site was that automatics got the 8-3/4 and only 6pac 440s got the Dana and hemi box. but if you say so...

True....all 440's with AUTOMATIC transmissions got the 8 3/4" rear ends....unless a Dana was special ordered.

All 440 4-speeds got the 18 spline box and the Dana.
Wondering if the 69 440 4spd `Cudas got the Dana? seems it would barely fit.

Sounds to me like a kid selling dad's or grandpa's stuff after they died....sad they didn't even know what they had..but good for you to score them...That's what the chase is all about...sourcing things that lead to other things ......BONUS!!!

All 69 M code Cudas were Automatics, 8 3/4 rear. Some with 3:55, Some with 3:91 Gear
Correct.
And I will add that they all came with console floor shift automatics.
No exception.
It was the same with the M code Darts of that year as well.
