Engine paint.... Lets see them purdy SB's

I'm getting ready to paint/assemble my 408 and need some ideas on color accent/brands/prep. I'll be using black wrinkle mopar VC's and A/C lid w/ an aluminum intake. I'm wondering what else I should paint and not paint.

My oil pan is a brand new stock replacment (spectra) thats already black. I think I should leave it black to prevent any oil contamination potentially softening/lifting the rattle paint over time, or is the spectra not that durable. I think a blck pan would accent my black VC's,A/C, pullys, fan, manifolds nicely too. For the intake & water pump I think I'll leave natural to accent w/ the alt/fuel pump ect. My issue is, the natural aluminum discolors rather quickly w/ heat, age, salt, gas spills ect. I'm wondering if theirs a durable clear that wont yellow/chip or discolor worse then the oxidized natural aluminum would overtime or should I just paint it silver/gray.

I'm really unsure of what brand to use for best durability. I already have 3 cans of Mopar orange (not sure if its street or race), but I've heard mixed reviews so I may not use it. My dad painted a 318 w/ MP and I wasnt to impressed. Lots of flacking and chipping after just a year. I thought it was do to poor prep, sounds like the MP paint just isnt that good. I hear Dupli color makes a good engine paint, some dont like the gloss, I personally like gloss. Then again durability is the most important for me. I'd like this money pit to look good for 5-7+ years so I'm putting some thought b4 I just shot some paint and cross my fingers.

My block has been tanked/acid washed and is currently on the stand bagged. I need some color b4 it starts to flash or get too cold to paint. My RHS heads where flashed when I got them, so whats the most effective to remove light flash rusting? What kind of prep should the block get if any? I cat imagine a rag would be good to use since the cast is so porous and would catch lint. Should I use a primer/clear? Anyone care to share some pics of you "orange" V8's please do so. The more ides and tips the better.

Hers the 318 that my dad did back in 2002 and is the same motor in my avitar (2007) only the manifolds are silver, I dont think the black stuck to well is why he painted them silver. The heads look ok yet but the front of the heads/T cover/oil pan have flacked badly. Basically anything that got oil weepage flacked. She sure looked good that day though. I want it to stay that way this time around.

for the best results and durability...

clean clean and clean.. i use brake clean...

then spray on epoxy primer

then us a high solids urethane paint like utech 3.8...

We have used VHT engine enamel with excellent results. Other brands may work well too. For an engine oil pan to intake you need 4 cans. If no fuel is spilled before backing in (first engine run), vht colors stay.
Key to good painting is getting the grease and oil from the block. Surface rust is not a problem to paint on as long as theres no oil. Rusty surfaces like to keep oil so degrease well.
Aply paint in thin layers. With VHT, even small runners and noses disapear after curing (heating, engine break in).
Sounds like an VHT add doesnt it but its just my experience.

If I wanted to paint my engine school buy yellow (highway yellow) and can't find a premade high temp paint for it, what else can I use that will be just as good or better?
 
I have painted a couple motors and never had good luck the paint alwways chipped or peeled i guess I didnt clean them enough. and I never used a primer coat first.
 
My daughter is heavy into art/fasion and photography. She doesn't like the mopar stock colours so we have painted the engine to match the colour of the car.

I use epoxy primer from a gun, and Delstar acrylic enamel. Doesn't even burn off the intake crossover.
It can be mixed to any color.
I'll never use rattle can on an engine again if its something I plan on keeping.

i use POR15 products or dupli-color with ceramic. on my small block, the blue is POR15, and the black is the duplicolor. sooner or later, all my ARP 12 point bolts will be going black again. like the look against the blue.
