Other uses for you engine hoist

I have used it to lower the front end of the car onto the k-member with the engine etc. attached to it.
Works slick...........

I use mine to put my B&W 5th wheel hitch and base in and out the 2015 Ram Dually. It is over designed IMO. My previous B&W in my 2000 was manageable by hand!

Did the same on my 08 Ram and 5th wheel hitch.

I work alone on my cars most of the time and have used mine to hold AC compressor while I replaced the water pump. I also used it ever so gently to pull on the power steering pump to tighten the belt.

Used mine to keep the bed of my Aunt's S10 tilted up while I changed out the in-tank fuel pump. Much easier than dropping the tank,

My "claim to fame" is I have a two post hoist, so I made one engine picker convertible to a transmission jack. It cost little, I only paid 80 bucks for the cherry picker, and it works fantastic. I've pulled several transmissions already

The tilt is a piece of allthread with a couple of "coupler nuts" welded as a T, just turn the nut on the end. I don't mind bragging, for as ugly as this is, and no more than it cost it just is "IT"

The hoist is outdoors on dirt, so to roll the picker, I have a couple of lightweight perforated channels I use for "tracks" for the picker

A bit of a warning when pulling stumps. When the stump is under pressure you will hear popping,snapping like a bowl of rice crispies. I crank it a few times and let it sit and watch the ground for activityand repeat until it comes out. It will shoot up like catapault so stay out of the way. It is under 2 tons of pressure and can really mess you up. It may come out easier if you saturate the ground with water after you dig it around it. I haven't tested this theory yet.

We sit in the backyard in the evenings and have a couple drinks and he comes charging up for us to pet him....he loves the side of his face rubbed....
You wouldn't think they have much personality but he really does!

Pulled 6 really ugly bushes out of our front yard. Wrapped a 2 inch wide strap around the base twice, it tightened as it pulled. Was a hell of a lot easier than digging them

I use the 4-Wheel drive Dually for that. Never had to engage 4-Wheel though!

used the engine puller with straps wrapped around the carrier to lift up in the Dana, when swapping gears.

this pic used the ratchet straps, while Dana sitting on a old air bumper lift

Great thread! Great ideas for fence posts! OMG the back breaking digging etc I've gone through when replacing old cedar split rail posts. Never again! Wait... what about the rotten ones that break off 12" under ground? Hmmm... A giant eye bolt/screw?? Still a pita.

I bought my hoist from a guy who put an LS engine in his Porsche. Actually... he used it to hoist the car overtop of the engine and lower the car back down and around the engine.

The first time I went to hoist my block... it sprayed fluid all over the garage. Thankfully I had a motorcycle hoist, a tire, and some short 2x12s to get the block high enough to mount on an engine stand... what a site that was

Had to replace the cylinder but after that it's been a godsend.

With an upcoming engine swap, I wrestled with the notion of buying a hoist and using it once (expensive), renting one for a day or two (hassle), or borrowing one from a friend of a friend (bigger hassle).
In a moment of clarity, I thought about all the other things it would be good for especially since the kids all moved out and my sweet wife doesn't do the "heavy lifting" like she used to. So far, used it to move the tailgate on the trailer, load the dirtbike into the truck and just yesterday put a big dead BBQ in the truck for a dump run. Money well spent!
