My daughters Pit mix dove on our golden . I could not get her off. She was like an alligator. Latched on Dori's neck and twisted back and forth so fast. Once I got a hold of its collar .I tried dragging her off and I just drug both dogs away together.

I twisted the collar and pulled she turned and latched onto my arm. I started punching her in the head while my legs were wrapped around her. Kitchen chairs were flying, Table was moved against the fridge with me and the dog under it. Grand kids screaming , Wife screaming.

It took everything I had not to shoot that dog in front of the kids. I never thought that dog would turn like that for no reason . No wonder that breed gets a bad rap.

Now I am hurting pretty bad and for what. Taking in a Rat bastard that should have got put down. A very docile dog that turned monster for no reason. The 11 month old golden was just sitting next to me with its head on my lap. Man I am hurting, Todds coming over to help ship some parts.

I pity Dori. Paw bit and swelled , Neck ripped up laying here shaking.

I'm a huge dog lover, but when a dog proves that you can't trust them....

Hopefully the golden heals quickly, and fully, but I doubt she'll ever forget it.

Good luck with this.

Pit's are nice until they aren't. This one tore up your pup. Good thing it wasn't a grandkid.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you both recover. Keep on eye on the dog bites they can get infected and cause an abscess on you and the pup

Dude you're lucky to be alive yourself. You never mentioned how you got away from it.

You know what you have to do. I'd consider making my daughter do it or at least threaten her with it.

Our daughter wanted a pit real bad but we talked her off that ledge by telling her homeowners will cancel your policy or deny coverage because of them. She ended up with a huge old hound with doggie PTSD that snapped at a few of us but never tried to kill anybody.

Those Pit dogs can be a menace to society. Take care of that Golden...they are an excellent breed. My mom had a 135 pounder at our family farm. Mr. Lucky...he was a wonderful dog, (RIP) Stay well Oldmanmopar...we need you around here. You undoubtably saved Dori's life!

Had a black lab that we owned since 6 weeks old. While I was away in Sask working, Rufus started "turning" nipped Lori and the kids a few times. When I would come home to visit I told them Rufus was "going". Kids n Lori squawked, so I told them "fine yer the ones getting bit, not me", and back to Sask I went lol.
Then grandbabies arrived and my decision was made. Rufus got rehomed to a shelter that took all walks of life in the animal kingdom. He was happy as heck with zero issues.
At least with a smaller dog, IF it turns you stand a better chance.

Daughters dog or not, I know what I would be doing with that Pit.....
I heard a disturbance in front of my house. I ran outside and found my across the street neighbors two pit bull mixes trying to kill my 75 year old next door neighbor in my driveway.
The owner was dancing around, trying to pull them off, getting nowhere.
I ran back in the house, got my 38, shot and killed one of the pits, the other one ran. I then called 911.

Police, animal control , showed up, and an ambulance took my friend to the hospital. Four news helicopters showed up (we had been having several local stories of dog attacks in socal at the time, including a killing of a very young girl).
The police and animal control thanked me, said I may have saved his life.
The owner complained I didn't have to shoot her dog.

My girlfriend likes pits, wanted one bad. I told her a pit was a deal breaker, relationship would be over.
We now have three wonderful, but noisy, German shepherds.

Your daughter's dog would have been dead before I left the room.

Can you say , TARGET PRACTICE ?!!!!

I take a health walk in the colder months , when I have nothing to do , and carry a pistol with bird shot in it , well placed in the face/eyes , will stop about anything ...

Steve, you and your golden pup need to get medical attention immediately. Dog bites are extremely dangerous for infection risk.

I am very sorry that you have had to go through this, I too am a dog lover, currently have 3. Pit bull mixes are just unpredictable, we have had them in our family without issues, however I never would fully trust them.

It just occurred to me that owning a dog that has been shown to be aggressive is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. And while you may not be the "owner", it is under your roof, which (I think) would make you complicit should a tragedy occur.

I love dogs, but in the interest of everyone's safety, it sounds like some immediate changes need to be made.

My heart goes out Dori. Please keep us abreast of her, and your, recovery.

Dori is the most affectionate dog ever. She loves the kids and this is her second time being hurt. First time at 6 months old a Coyote got her playing in the back yard with my grand daughter Tommy and my sons mother in law .

Luckily Dodge Ran to her rescue. A Golden Bernese mixed , Doris best friend. Big black golden cuddly Watch dog.

The pit is lucky dodge wasn't in the house. I would have walked away, went and got the mop .

You can always rely on a Dodge!

It's not a bad rap when the statistics back it up.

It's the truth. I won't let them on my property.

Had a pit do that to my husky/malamute while walking, needless to say my dog wasn't ever the same after. He didn't trust any dog breed that resembled a pit. Of course the owner was like oh this never happened before. Heal up quick you and your pup.

The only problem with Dodge is that big nose is always solid mud. I don't know what he digs for . You fill in the hole and he digs it back up.
My snootie sister took Mr. Lucky to the groomer after our mom died. Now this is a 135 lb Golden Retriever farm dog. He came back with his hair cut, a red bandana around his neck and it kinda looked like his eyelashes were curled. The first thing he did was dig a big hole in the backyard and roll in the mud. My sister tried to stop him, and he got up and shook. That wet mud flew all over her dumb ***... I'm not sure but I think he may have winked when he was done. LOL Hang in there Steve!

Only read the 1st post. Sorry you had time learn the nature of the beast the hard way. A brindle pit of 50 lbs lived across from us in a trailer park 50 years ago. The 2 year old boy could lay on the floor, reach up, grab this dog's ears, the dog would pull him across the floor. Gentle as could be with humans. It would get loose, go a few door away grab a poodle, pull it to the end of its rope, then shake it like a rag. This cost Steve about $200 and it was 50 years ago. Yelling about when a nest of yellow jackets nearly killed that pit,, I'll save that for a thread about karma. Cheers

Sorry I left out the most important part. Poke a screw driver, anything under the collar and start twisting. The monsters eyes roll back and it will let go but you do not let go until you feel safe to.
