Oh man, that sucks! sorryNew engine in Gladys busted off and sounded great yesterday. Buried the 80 PSI gauge the whole time. Even when I finally let it idle it only dropped to about 75. But, as my luck goes, I moved the truck over where it's normally parked and looked at the gauge. Zero. Once again. The manual gauge under the hood coincides. I let it sit overnight and started it this morning and 40 is all it will go run up to about 3K. I think it ate the cam and the filter is full of metal. So the plan is to verify it and put the 351M back in it for now.

It'll be a recam and lifter at the least. I think what I'm going to do is put the 351 back in it and slowly make the 400 a solid roller engine. Nothing crazy, just a mild solid roller.Sad
Hope it's an easy fix
I know the feeling. My wife has been understanding with letting me fix my projects for multiple days at a time with 2 little kids to watch with the promise that it doesn't happen often. So I was able to get the car running and driving within 2 days. Like I said, nothing crazy, just an oil change and some new gas and it fired right up after needing some cranking love. I've in the past also replaced the rear axle bearings, front forks, and tire on my valkyrie, and did an engine swap on the buell. And no, fixing the daily driver SUV doesn't count as touching a wrench. Aside from the G8, because working on that car was something I actually wanted to do. I'm just mad that I had to do all the deferred maintenance left over from the PO such as replacing the carrier bearing, rear wheel bearing, alternator, HD A/C bracket, rebuild the transmission, new tires and brakes, instead of adding stuff like better rear sound deadening, improving the subs, new wheels, brembo brakes, and ultimately turbocharging it for 600 whp. I did put new struts in it and some lowering springs so that was nice. But I bought the damn thing with a broken spring in the first place.I’m sitting at my in laws house with my two year old and one month old. Dreaming about even touching a wrench. My cars been neglected for 4 years.

Sounds like you have fordsOk so get this....
I dragged the 351 out to get the heads off and clean it up to put it back together. I found out why it burned the exhaust valve. The head's cracked between the valves. LOL So I have a tore up 351 and a tore up 400. LOL
Indeed. lolSounds like you have fords
Rear cylinder?? I remember in the early '80's learning the Clevelands liked to overheat the rear cyls., and cracks would happen....sorry to hear Dude...curious what all is found on the 400. And buddy of mine ~'90 or so had a 351C in His '68 Torino GT, I 'funnel-matched' a 4V intake to His 2V heads,.....the cam retaining plate broke, & walked far enough to have a lobe clip an adjacent lifter & boom......mechanical kill switch..lol.Ok so get this....
