Which intake for my budget 360 build?

-
To bad he wasn't able to use the same carb with the swap, because that would cool to see the effect of just the intake. Either way that is a significant improvement over the stock set up

How in the world I'll never know, but I have ended up with the following intakes. I'm doing my budget 325-350 horse 360 build now. I have the following intakes that are gathering dust. I'm not sure which one I want to go with yet. I really don't know that I want to go drop $300 on an RPM Performer.
LD340
Torker II
Weiand single plane 7510
Victor (not sure about hood clearance)

I am a firm be-leaver of using what is on hand.......just pick one.......drive it around, like it?, you scored a home run on your first at bat, good for you.......don't like it, change it, you got 3 more to choose from, like it?, you're batting .500, still pretty good...........I think at this point you can get where I'm coming from, because in the end, YOU will have learned something no one can take away from you.......swapping them out is a couple of hours, you're having fun working on your car.

The next time some one asks a question like this, you can give your own personal experience.

A great idea, just dont do it in a weekend. Try a manifold for 5 days or so if you have the luxury of consistent weather. See how the car starts, idles cold, idles warm, drives during the day, and when its cold after sundown, highway, traffic light to light etc.

That's how I ended up with about 12 manifolds. Screw it! I just kept on trying them out. Stock, aftermarket Dual planes, single planes, dual quads, tunnel rams. I have had them.

My LD340 with QF 650DP flows well enough to make 480HP @ 5700 and 511 torque @ 4300
418 CI stroked 340, so not exactly a budget build but I would do the DC mod to the LD340 and call it good if you are picking from what you have on hand and sell the rest. Or buy my Port-O-Sonic! :) $100 shipped to FABO or Cuda-Challenger members lower 48.

Wait a second. A single plane on that combo?? I sure wouldn't. You have the 2nd best dual plane ever made for a mild small block in the LD340. It was THE street intake for combo's JUST LIKE YOURS until the Air Gap came along.

A current project I'm playing with ran 1 more MPH with an Air Gap vs. an LD340 but the same ET. 9:1 360, EQ heads, MP .484 cam, street (tight) 10" converter, 3.55's, 255/60 drag radials.

You wouldn't notice much if any difference between the LD340 and LD4b. On stuff at that power level it's basically a wash.

The port window thing is one of the biggest red herrings in mopar lore. :)

Rob, how would you expect an Edelbrock Performer to perform vs. a Performer RPM? I'm guessing similarly?

I missed that 2! The LD340 is a no brainer sell the rest. If you still want the RPM I'll swap you mine. I like the LD340 because you can use a spread bore TQ without an adapter!

No you cannot. No LD340 ever came like that. They had enough meat to modify, but all of them ever made were square bore intakes. Every single one. I've seen a few that were modified.......some nicely and some crapped all up, but none ever came spread bore.

Correct. I had two, and both were square bore. they will have a small notch out of the divider in the back.
If I was to run the TQ, I'd run the cast intake for it. If somebody had to have aluminum, I'd use the Weiand Action plus. It takes the spreadbore and square bore. I have a square bore on my Action plus right now, but it would take a spread bore also.

I know it's a square bore but there's extra added material to allow you to bore it out to fit a spread bore, where the RPM doesn't.

By the way look what I found!!!!

Yup. That's what I said. The reason they did that.......plus let Chrysler cast them with factory numbers was to make them legal for Stock Eliminator. Like I said, none ever came machined and ready for the spread bore.

LD 340 with factory part number was never legal for NHRA Stock until a week or two ago.....I have had 3 Stock eliminator friends call looking for those intakes...LOL...After talking to paul wong...he said the legality of the intake is based on the LD4B that is legal on the 273 with chrysler pn...

Excellent! But we knew Rob would make such a reply. LMAO

To add on, the matching of port windows normally will maximize performance IF the given engine combo can use it. Not needing the extra port window only slows down the mix. This can very well end up with the engine performing worse.

Having a smaller port window is not a bad thing since the velocity of the mix stays high. A good thing! The fuel has less of a chance of forming into droplets and collecting on the intake walls.

This is best for everything except wide open throttle. Which seems to favor a less fine mist of a mix.

What I have noted through the years about the Performer is it is about equal to the OE intake in its general performance parameters. A general port matching makes it equal or a hair better. Fully porting the intake makes it a much better intake than the OE. It then seems to get real close to the RPM at a cost I can't see spending.

If your going to build a nice and powerful street machine with a dual plane intake, then go to the top of the field. Don't bother with a lesser intake and big mods unless you want to do them for your own reasons. (Stealth like?)
You can go pretty fast with a OOTB RPM intake and heads. Not ported on ether.
