    Sorry to see all the carnage, you better pull the pistons and check the undersides for cracks. Hard to believe the valves would hit with that big of a relief in the pistons. Hope they are ok.

    If the head broke off the needle is probably seized, can you drill it out with a reverse bit and the drill in reverse? Maybe spray some penetrant in first.

    Are the secondarys closing all the way? I had that problem with the same carb, those big bores only need to be open slightly to make it rev pretty high

    Help! Alt wiring problem

    As stated above you should have two for the alt, mine has a blue for the a/c compressor in that same loom. If you have two blue wires you can test for continuity to the pressure shut off on the dryer to see which one is the compressor wire.

    Thanks for he info Joe Those Harlans IIRC are $700 without the shafts or hold downs, don't think I can afford those. The rest of my valve train is comp so maybe I should go with theirs for any warranty issues that may arise from the rest of the comp pieces. Just pray the ole 18 will hold up...

    Comp cams claims 15-20 hp gain with their rollers. Do the alum hold up or is steel the way to go? There is a stainless set on e-bay reasonably priced but how does a guy get real world info on these products? Also is there any gain in buying the 1.6 ratio over 1.5?

    They look galled and it's all of them, now that I have a decent job I will be looking at replacing them with a roller setup. Do you have to buy different pushrods with the rollers?

    What is the idle set at? May just need to speed it up. Could also be a dirty carb since you said you need to pump it to get it running. Will it rev up to say 3000 in park without dying?

    You guys got me freaked out now, when I had a shop pull my pan and unclog the pickup the guy put a high volume pump in without asking me about it, and didn't replace the drive shaft. Didn't think about it at the time. No more high rpms for the 318. Bruce

    My starter went out so I dug out the small high torque that was on the 360 when I bought it, hobe wan kanobe batman, that worn out 318 starts just by looking at the key. Those starters are really worth the money. Bruce

    Easiest method to remove tranny/engine bolts

    Also I believe the 408 is external balance so a different flexplate or torque converter will be needed. If it is a column shift don't forget to unhook the linkage, it will tilt the trans when you raise it and make alignment difficult.
