First time out

That would mean replacing the almost new sure grip. Axles are going to be $500 buy the time they hit the front door. Wife's already on my *** about the coin I put in the car. If she only knew how much is really in it.

Well if you don't have the money to change the sure grip I would get some 30 spline Moser axles for it.i have a set in my 3520 pound dart that has ran in the 10.40 so far. But my best 60 foot has only been a 1.48.hopefully with my new 8 inch ATI 5200 converter I can get my 60 down in the 1.40 range. When I ran the the 1.48 60 foot I was only running a 9.5 converter that stalled around 4200. But if I was you it would by better to get some 35 spline axles.no sense in buying them twice. Also very nice car you have and great job on your first time

Thanks for the compliments, talked to moser and they said that their 30 splines would get the job done. Also have a Dana 60 housing in the corner of the garage. I'm guessing a $1000 in parts to put it together.

I already twisted a couple Moser axels(30 spline),also bent housing.Spent wisely on the Dana60 you have...then no more worries in the rear/axel department.Been there,done that.:banghead:

for a small block car yours is pretty mean and will only get faster with more tuning. If i didn't have all my money tied up in my big block stuff, i would like to build a small block turbo motor. its unreal how fast you can make one with a turbo etc. OK back to your rear end, if you do decide to get 35 spline axles for your 8-3/4 you can use them in your dana60. Not counting the moser 35 spline axles i reused out of my broke 8-3/4 housing. I had about 900 dollars in my Dana 60.

here is what i bought from moser.

Richmond 4.56 gears
moser 35 spline 1350 billet yolk
moser 35 spline Dana 60 spool
Master bearing/seal install kit with spool bearings
moser 8-3/4 housing ends
I payed shipping to moser and back to have the housing ends installed

me and my friend put the rear end together. But like you i have a Dana 60 out of a 68 big block 3/4 dodge truck waiting to be built when my 8-3/4 goes boom again.lol
shipping to moser and back for the Dana housing, had them weld on the bearing ends.

Pettyblue what et and 60ft was you running when you broke your 8-3/4 stuff? I think one of the reason i have not broke mine yet is becasue my car doesn't 60ft that hard. The 8-3/4 was in the car when i bought it and it already had a back brace welded on it. I am going to run it in my duster until i get the money to build my Dana. Which might be soon if i get to race the dart one more time before i retire it.lol i drove my dart on the street some last fall with the 8 inch ATI converter and man the car feels like a whole different animal .lol

My car was running 10.64@123mph 60fts 1.44.No backbrace on the narrowed 8 3/4,running Caltracs.I had 29x12x15 Hoosier slicks on at the time, but have since changed to 29.5Rx10.5x15 with Dana 60,billet yoke, new d.shaft with 1350 joints.I was twisting the splines about 2-3 inches in from end of axels running 4.30 pro gears with spool. Not one issue for past 3 yrs.(knocks on wood).6pkScamp,I know others will disagree about the 8 3/4 strength, but every build/car is different. If you plan to continue to race the car and go faster.Save headache,time,money...build the Dana.Peace..

Plenty of guys running in the 9's with 8 3/4's..my duster has a 8 3/4 4.30's with spool Moser axles 1350 yokes custom 3 1/2 driveshaft..have broken NOTHING since switching to this set up..and i launch this car hard..

sooner or later the ring gear or pinion gear will eat the teeth...that is the major flaw in a 8 3/4 even after you put back bracing ...spools..new axles...the ring and pinion is the weak spot...

heavy cars will do it sooner then later.....

Our 71 Dart is not heavy...but it twisted the axles housing...it was not braced...plus went I pulled the third member it had 3 cracked teeth...ticking time bomb...lol....

Car has even run faster with the Dana 60 in it....more efficient rear end...

Called a buddy last night and asked about some parts to put the Dana together. To my surprise he told me not to bother with the housing I have. He has one and most of the parts to finish it. so for about $1000 I will have a Dana with disc brakes. Thanks for good friends
