If a drag car it is likely .030 over with KB167 pistons. Same 10.5:1 compression as the 273 Commando and 50 more cubes. At approx. 2750 lbs definitely not a slouch!
Modern fuels begin degrading much faster than they did in the past. You have been fortunate.
There are many stories about people that have been less fortunate. The Ethanol fuel treatment stabilizer products are mfg and sold in response to issues with older engine technologies in vehicles and...
The problem with Ethanol fuel mix is called Phase Separation. Ethanol is very corrosive and you don't want that happening. Neither Seafoam or regular Stabil do anything to treat or prevent this separation. Use Stabil 360 Marine (Blue). It works. There is also a product called Phase 4 or 4 Phase...
Yes. We drove them to work (year round), grocery getters, brought babies home from the hospital and we raced them too. Wore them out but what fun we had. Just transportation. The way it was. But what a time it was.
My 1970 "Machine" actually glowed at night. The decals were reflective. Lots of WTF looks pulling into a Drive-In at night. The Hurst 390 sang quite a song as well.
Yes it does. Chrysler and Ford are more "stealthful" about the situation than GM AFM and GM DOD. On my GM I could watch the dash display and see V8-V4-V8-V4 going on back and forth adnuseaum. I guess not likely on any Chrysler or Ford product because of the nasty reputation of cylinder...
Chrysler hasn't stopped MDS. Again for C.A.F.E. reasons.
When you see that little "Econ" light on the dash you are driving a 3 ton Hemi V4 with a bunch of oil starved lifters. The cylinder shut down can be temporarily prevented by driving in manual or tow haul mode. Apparently it might be...
If your truck is not consistently throwing codes yet, many of which are false, a Range Tech just might save it. The 5.3 is capable of a 300K mile life span. Outstanding stout engines until GM accountants messed with the engineering.
That is the sign of an engine getting f.... d up by cylinder deactivation. Mine was the same. Drove me crazy. Plugged in the Holley Range Tech and a year later hasn't thrown a code of any type. Very happy as a V8 with all things working in harmony as designed. It is a different truck...
Yup. For countless thousands of GM owners "wasn't a good idea" is an understatement. Too late now. Don't know the mileage on your truck but I hope it is not to late to "save" it.
It's actually a disaster. Google GM AFM (Active Fuel Management) current Billion $ class action suit against GM for fatal engine damage. What is going on in these engines is negligent and borders on the criminal. It is all about C.A.F.E. and corporate accountants. The engineers warned them...
This isn't complex. No mysteries. It is important to remember that Canadian Valiants are actually Dodges though they were branded as Plymouths. Dodge Wheelbase. Only the front sheet metal (fenders/hood) are Plymouth Valiant. Firewall back a "Vodge".
I don't know why this was done other than...
Great memories from that video. Hot August nights in the 60's.
It is said that the best exhaust note is a tossup: Ford Flathead V8 running through dual Smithy mufflers or the Mopar 273 Commandos.
@WV64Signet
TTI makes the Commando single exhaust system complete bolt on. Do it. I wish I...
If you have the correct carb base that allows the lid to slide down over it problem solved.
Engines dressed in Commando livery are just downright cool. Nothing like it.
2 1/4" resolved my height issue. If that is what is installed in the pic of your lid it doesn't appear that you will be able to run the Commando setup with the height of the intake. Buy another intake. It's only money! LOL!
Is there an air filter in there? Too tall if there is one. Find a narrower filter and the lid will then drop down further if you have the right base. Even then hood clearance may be an issue. My Weiand 8007 intake was borderline.
