Cheap Ebay roller rockers. Too good to be true?

Needle rollers sucked up in the oil pump will ruin your day! Get what you pay for with valve train parts. These could cost you $$$$ when they fail!

    Who runs this cam?

That’s the cam I am running in my 70 Swinger 318. I looked in into comp cam that had close to same specs. The problem I had was the tech at comp was a asshole. Asked about the engine and I told him I didn’t build it as I bought the car running. When he asked what pistons I told him Stock 30 over...

New engine has loss of compression

Be sure to put jack with a block of wood under the transmission pan. This will keep from binding everything up. It is very easy to pop a trany case if you don't. That would really ruin your day.

New engine has loss of compression

From the pics you posted its hard to believe you only have 3000 miles on it. My feeling is your carb was way rich and rings never seated properly. Pics look like you been sucking oil past the rings. Did your oil look really dirty and diluted?

Why is oil coming out of these?

Glad to here you found the leak. I have seen this before once or twice.

Why is oil coming out of these?

Sure its not a cracked oil sending unit spraying on intake manifold?

    Nasty engine shake when overheated

Todays fuels do not do well with high temps. If you can find someplace to buy real gas the car will run much better. If you have room to run a plastic or wood spacer under carb it would help. You are having vapor lock problems. I would bet car is hard to start when warmed up and shut off and...

    340 block?

These guys will correct me if I am wrong. The 340 came out in 68. May be early casting. Be sure it is a 340 and not a 273.

    NEW engine is skipping

Did you take a good look at plug color when you pulled them? What ignition are you running? Did you break cam in properly? You may have a wiped cam lobe.

    No oil in pass. head?

Why would you crank engine over to build oil pressure? Should have used drill and hex shaft to prime and check oil flow. Hope you didn't do serious damage.

    start up went good but

Should be idle screw on driver side of car to adjust RPM. Should be two one for choke on and one for throttle linkage.

    hate a body headers

That's the way I got mine out of my 67 cuda. I did not plan to reuse. The op may want to reuse his. I use two methods to remove tie rod ends ball joints and pitman. Remove cotter pin loosen nut and smack side of joint with a hammer 2 or 3 shots and it will drop off. I also have a pickle fork...

    71 340. What's it worth?

That's a steal at $600 if it has not been over bored too much where it is no longer rebuildable. Good luck with it. Bill

    small block start up

Depends on your neighbors. If you have a flat tappet cam once you start you need to run it for about 30 mins with rpm about 2500.

    How bad is it?

Pull sparkplugs out and rotate engine by hand. Figure out why manifold leaks and fix it. Drain oil and change filter. Worst part is you have to buy 5 quarts of break in oil. My worry would be if it hydro locked it may have bent a rod!
