my 1973 Dart Sport rebuild

thanks Cliff. May just have the son do that while the engine is out and before we paint it. Bill

today, we got a lot done on the Dart. Tyler went back and put some patch panels in by the wheel going up in the trunk.

I got stuck one more day in the engine bay. There was some rust pitting on the driver side inner fender. so I spent about 2 hours with a dremel and a diamond bit getting all the little rust pockets out. it has to be done or it will come right back. will spray it with epoxy primer and he will lay a skim of body filler over it. cheaper than putting a new one in it.

then I had to tackle the k frame. the welds looked great so we didn't have to re -weld it. cleaned it real good and took it down to metal as much as I could. then sprayed it with etch primer and some flat black. I found Tyler playing hide-n-go seek.

pulled the steering box off to make room to work and the boot for the pitman arm looked ragged. so I will replace the arm. cleaned the steering box up and decided to go ahead and spray it while it was off and accessible.

worked on the driver side fender today. looks like just a little rust in the bottom. probably put a patch panel in it.

A+
hopefully my boys will take to some of the Darts I got in the yard ('68, '69 Darts & '74 360 Sport).
It would look pretty cool if you just cleared the engine bay! Especially after all that hard work cleaning it up, almost looks like chrome in the pictures.
Are you putting in the factory air?
:burnout:

factory air may be a possibility later in the game but not now. I would like to get a 69 Dart Swinger again.

worked on the patch panels on the fenders.

then we stripped the doors down to metal. filled a couple dents. stripped the beak and filled a dent or two.

layed a skim of mud on the inner fender to fill the rust we dug out with a dremel. easier and cheaper than replacing the whole fender.

So at this point, the engine bay has all the imperfections fixed. both fenders have had patch panels replaced and all the dents and imperfections filled. the beak is done. both doors have been checked and all the little dents have been filled. hope tomorrow after church, we can put all these pieces and engine bay in primer and sand them back down and check for any problems. I plan on sitting the 4 speed tunnel in and check that out. still on track to have this thing painted mid to late January.

time has come for the primer. all the pieces are done, smooth, rust free and ready to put the 1st coat of primer on it and block it to see where more attention is needed. It is being primed tonight. pics probably tomorrow.

pics of the engine bay, doors, fenders and beak shot in Deltron primer. it all looks pretty good. just have to block it and shoot it again. hopefully this will get done this week as Tyler has a Lexus to paint next weekend. cutting into the shop time on this one but the money is good and he will need it for this one. will update later.

don't have time to take a break. If this thing is going to be ready for the first car show on May 3rd. have to stay with it. May take enough time to have Christmas dinner. LOL

Nice progress. I'm curious about that primer. A high build that goes over bare metal and filler?

Spendy too but I guess skipping epoxy primer saves some.
