    K Member install help

Which bars are you referring to, the strut rods up front, or the torsion bars behind the K-frame? Either way, I would strip the K-frame down to bare minimum "stuff" attached to install it first, then add the other components. *************** That's funny, we must have been typing at the same...

Help-What's the trick for removing gear arm from center link?

Don't mean to be picky, but if you ever have to buy a replacement, the "gear arm" you refer to is most commonly known as the "Pitman arm". And when they are stuck, as you found out, it seems like it will take a team of wild horses to get them off.

Did I collapse my steering shaft?

You might consider drilling both sides and using small aluminum pop rivet pins - they should shear easily under a collision situation. I agree with daliant, once installed, the shaft will not separate. Remember, the column is mounted both to the dash frame and the floor, and the column shaft...

    How to tell '73-up UCAs?

Bingo, you win the Kewpie doll. As it turns out, I found a pair of each like yours in the trunk of a parts car I bought. It never occurred to me to compare the ball joint tapered studs. I was focusing on how there wasn't much obvious difference in the top of the ball joints. As you pointed...

    How to tell '73-up UCAs?

That's kind of what it boils down to, C. Is it determined by the top of the ball joint (the part threaded and screwed into the UCA), or is it the tapered stud on the bottom of the joint? Any help is appreciated.

    How to tell '73-up UCAs?

I know the '73-up UCAs are the ones hunted for by those wanting to upgrade to disk brakes, but I don't know how to tell the difference in them vs. the earlier ones. Doesn't it have something to do with the size of the ball joints - what do I look for? Anything for me to measure so I will...

    Power steering pump fitting

When my son Aaron and I pulled the 360 out of his grandparent's '80s Dodge van to swap into his '74 Duster, we took the power steering pump with it. He recently bought a power steering hose and found that the fitting in the back of the Saginaw pump will not tighten completely. Tech support...

    What is this steering wheel?

Now, it's starting to make sense. In your first picture, the metal ring was turned upside down. The back of the vinyl pad has those tabs that hook underneath the tabs on the metal ring. Take a look at my close-up pic on page one of this thread and you can see the horn switch we have. It...

    What is this steering wheel?

Thanks, now, can someone show how it should look with a Plymouth emblem? Also, can someone show how the ring attaches to the steering wheel? What type of horn ring is mounted on the wheel? Is the black vinyl center pad simply held on with a friction fit or does it "snap" onto the metal ring...

    Steering wheel removal?!?

You may find that the steering wheel can't be rotated on the shaft because it has a master spline that only fits in one position. You'll probably have to adjust it using the steering gear box.

Need hose for this steering pump

This 360 and its attached power steering pump in Aaron's '74 Duster came from a 80s Dodge Maxivan. Which pump is this - Saginaw or other? Was it common in cars, or specific to vans? What hoses do we look for?

    Steering Column Disassembly

If you removed the machine screws holding the upper housing to the middle housing, and the ring clip is off, the only thing holding it together is friction. Use a rubber mallet and tap it side to side at the very top edge. As Adam said, the only contact point that could give you any resistance...

You may have to loosen the engine mounts and carefully jack the engine up a little to gain access to the steering box bolts. Watch out for the transmission, exhaust, etc. so you don't get something in a bind. Use a wide board under the oil pan to spread the load.

Tiny pin in steeing pot kit?

I will admit that the steering components I am familiar with are the '73 - '76 Dart Sports and Dusters I have worked with. Perhaps yours is a different model with a different setup that allows such a significant slippage. However, I'm game to learn something new. Maybe you can explain to me...

Tiny pin in steeing pot kit?

Actually, there's really no possibility for the steering shaft to pull out of the coupler when its installed, because there is virtually no front-to-back movement. The large split pin driven through the lower end keeps the coupler fastened to the steering gear box's splined output shaft. The...

    Steering wheel too small??
